It would probably differ from state to state, but I imagine if the governor resigned after the recall was triggered, the recall election would be canceled, but would it then become a special election for governor? Obviously the LG, AG, SoS, State House Speaker, etc. whoever is next in line would be elevated to acting governor, but I think each state handles what happens next differently. You don't see too many special elections for governor, though (West Virginia 2011 and Oregon 2016 are the only two I can think of in recent memory).
