Probably not lol.

Like even in say 2055 when most Mineral and Sunny Day Real Estate fans are in their 70s and like the typical age of a Pope there probably won't be one because that Pope will have to be a Catholic priest now and like zero Catholics much less priests listen to real emo.

(Plus then the Pope will probably be an African anyway.)

My church's main teaching pastor is a fan of Phoebe Bridgers (like he literally spent the intro to one sermon talking about her new album that he got on vinyl), and she's at least emo-influenced (I mean "I Know The End" below the post basically sounds like a The Hotelier song with a female singer), so yeah you definitely should.

Yes, but he'd have to be a cool Pope. Perhaps... a young Pope

Perhaps one day in the distant future, when Guy Picciotto's music takes its rightful place in the classical music pantheon.

Would BRTD convert to Catholicism if the Pope listened to emo?

Why bother? As I said above I already have a pastor who listens to cool emo-influenced music on vinyl.

I thought "emo-influenced music" was not actually "real emo".

I thought "emo-influenced music" was not actually "real emo".

If you get really specific real emo is actually very rare and has a very narrow definition. Like this is what "pure" emo sounds like:

The bands "emo elitists" rave about from the mid-90s (like Mineral, Sunny Day Real Estate, early Jimmy Eat World, The Promise Ring, American Football, etc.) actually played what was basically a form of indie rock/alternative rock with emo influences, but considering how inaccessible "real emo" is (as you can see above), it became far more well known and kind of took over the definition. Similarly "screamo" is basically this merging emo and hardcore. (There was also kind of a punk style, as epitomized by Jawbreaker.) It's still great music and actually emo-influenced, unlike My Chemical Romance which doesn't have any real emo influence at all other than some screamo influences on their first album. A lot of Phoebe Bridgers songs sound like The Hotelier, who put out the best emo (of any form) album of the 2010s, and that's great.

Does it really matter though, when almost no band actually calls themselves emo?

To me and many others yes, because when we say "I like emo" we're not referring to some stupid kids with bizarre haircuts and that include males who wear makeup and eyeliner and don't want to be associated with that stupid f[inks]ing garbage in any way whatsoever.

There might be a Pope that listened to Mall Emo somewhere down the line. But I doubt anyone who likes the real stuff will ever be Pope.
