A lot of these fines are structured in such a way as to disproportionately impact those of lesser means. This is especially so in a state like NC where people are forced to choose between fines and food/bills and can have their license revoked for failing to pay, which in a state with little public transportation, eliminates the very means to earn a living and pay the fines.

It was in dealing with the structure to get my license in 2018 and 2019 and the difficulties foisted on anyone who was not already in the system through normal ways that I became more cognizant of just how imbalanced this all is.

1. for all the preaching of self reliance and the problems of gov't dependence, the system is structured to cause more people to end up trapped, stuck and dependent and also puts enormous pressure on families.

2. If you aren't like everyone else, people will use that as an excuse to not help. I got a response basically from someone declining to help, along the lines of "well your parents didn't do what they were suppose to and ensure you had this when they were around". I cannot bring them back, I cannot go back in time and bc of what they did you cannot help me now was basically my thought process.

Its a system designed to create an underclass.
This was a North Carolina Yankee post from the 27th that brought to my attention a reality that I wasn't aware of.
I urge the Chamber to pass this bill.
