Quote
For women in the U.S. Army, the changes to regulation and grooming standards announced Tuesday morning will mean more freedom of expression, as well as some much-needed support. Sergeant Major Mark Anthony Clark from the Army’s Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel remarked on how the Army's grooming standards was in place for soldiers to present "a clean and professional appearance." Now, that can include wearing lipstick, nail polish, earrings, and hairstyles like braids, twists, and locs, as opposed to buns. "In an effort to stop hair damage and loss stemming from hairstyles like the bun, the Army approved healthier hairstyle options that are more inclusive of various natural styles," Clark announced.

Additionally, breastfeeding or pumping soldiers are now permitted to wearing undershirts to better accommodate their needs. These changes come just days after President Biden overturned the banning of transgender people in the US military. "We know that actions speak louder than words when it comes to inclusivity and equity within our ranks," said Lieutenant General Gary Brito. "We believe that the changes we announced today are one example of policies that put our people first."

Most welfare programs don't have dress codes at all, I see no reason why this one should continue to do so.

I’m glad to see socialists supporting workfare.

No, that would imply they do some work or contribute in some way.

If we have to face the Chinese military with an army of lipstick-wearing men, they'll nuke us just to put us out of our misery.

Please stop quoting Jerry Falwell.

Seriously, though, you think we should ban men from wearing makeup?

You do realize that in other countries, the primary purpose of the military is to strike fear into the hearts of their enemies, yes?

If you can't serve in the military without wearing lipstick, then you shouldn't have joined the military to begin with. It is a collectivist organization, not a venue for self-expression. I am confident that our soldiers knew when they signed up that they might not be allowed to paint their faces or wear whatever clothes they prefer. Please stop making national security a culture war battlefield.

1) I’m not making this a culture war battleground - I barely have an opinion here.
2) I think a better answer would have been that banning cosmetics is different from banning people.
3) How on earth is this news?

Fun factoid of the day:  there is no such thing as an unattractive jarhead female officer.  All of them are fine as sh**t.

That is all.  Carry on.

With 21st century technology, physical and personal appearances matter much less. Pretty sure the drone operator that took out Soleimani resembled this:

No.

Only in dictatorships and nations like the US that fetishise military nationalism.

I've not seen the Belgian Army striking much 'fear' in peace keeping missions and rightfully so.

The primary purpose of the US Military is to launder money to defense contractors and provide jobs to unemployable Americans. 98% of them will never meet an enemy soldier in person or fight in any kind of war, let alone a justified one.

War was a much more meaningful exercise when face paint was the norm.

With due respect, John, I'm more receptive to the opinions of the career military men and women who made this decision driving someone whose military career has likely been limited to reading Sun Tzu.

Look dude, we get it that you got a hard-on against those serving in the military. I share your contempt of the waste of money that are Congress writing blank checks to the Pentagon entails, but call 98% of the military members to be supposedly unemployable the ones I know being a far damn sight smarter than you, pinhead, is grotesquely moronic of you to say.

Seriously,, the military men and women I know could get a job probably far easier than you, so I'd suggest you chug a big old glass of STFU juice.

As people who help subsidize the camo welfare program, myself and John Dule's opinions on this are just as legitimate as anyone else's, even though I broadly disagree with him for different reasons.

I never said 98% are unemployable. I said 98% will never face enemy troops at any point (which was a rebuttal to John Dule's comment.) I would put the percentage of unemployable people in the military at a lower level, but only because of the "free" job training they get in things like electrical, mechanical operations, and medical/nursing. The high number of people who depend on veteran's preference to find employment in government agencies (notably the USPS) would suggest there's a real nugget of truth to my comment.
