Edwards.  Edwards does not automatically give Kerry a state like other candidates.  For example Richardson does sure up New Mexico for Kerry.  However, edwards does give Kerry a chance in North Carolina as well as an overall boost.  Edwards has moderate appeal and is very well liked, and could give Kerry a couple point boost in several of the battleground states.  A boost the other candidates can't give outside of their state/region.  So while a candidate like Richardson would give Kerry a better chance of winning New Mexico than the chance Edwrads would give Kerry of winning N Carolina, Edwards would give Kerry a better chance of winning several battleground states, than he would with someone else

It will be Edwards.  There is absolutely no question in my mind about this.  If someone other than Edwards is picked, I will eat my shoes.   Cheesy

ANY REPUBLICAN FOR #1.  Obviously McCain doesn't want it, but there are other mavericks.  Cohen maybe?

2. Edwards

After that:
3.Evan Bayh
4.Wes Clark
5.Mary Landrieu
6.Harry Reid (Nevada - my pick for Darkhorse)

Absolutely Edwards.  He is the only candidate (besides McCain) who would perceptibly bump Kerry's numbers nationwide.

You think Kerry should choose Hillary?  I know you think he will but surely you don't think it'd a good move or anything?

Edwards is a no-brainer here.  A lot fo the reasons PA and OH have been trending Republicans is because the Democrats (mainly Clinton) have been duds on labor this past decade.  I defintiely think Edwards would seal PA, OH, WV, MI, and give him a shot at MO, NC, or even SC.

A VP doesn't do that much.  Choosing Edwards wouldn't guarantee Kerry a victory like you think it would and it's outright naive to think that Kerry would have a shot in SC because of it.

South Carolina!!, you crazy dude?

She would appeal to the former soccer moms and other moderate females.

i think cohen supports bush.

cohen took the job in the clinton administartion under one condition--he wouldnt be used in a political capacity.  the man is a republican.

kerry isnt going to choose anyone that may potentially upstage him in any way.   so that rules out all of the charasmatic choices.

I don't agree.  I see Kerry as all political and strategy.  If there was a decent pick from Ohio they'd already be his VP.

Anyway, this topic is about what Kerry SHOULD pick, not who has the highest chance.

Maybe so but his chances dropped a hell of a lot with that recent Indiana poll showing Bush up by more than 20. Bayh is worthless. He helps Kerry in no state except Indiana which Kerry has no chance at no matter what.

Hillary should be replaced with Mark Warner though.

Russ Feingold and Dennis Kucinich are the obvious choices, but the party leaders won't let Kerry make such a smart pick.

Everyone listed in this poll other than Edwards is either mighty bad or is basically a nobody.

You do know that Kucinich was rejected by the Democratic primaries as too extreme?  Mainstream America would be shocked.

Feingold would be ok though.  Wisconsin is an awfully important state, and he probably secures it for Kerry.  Kucinich does nothing in Ohio.

Vilsack is probably second best on the list after Edwards. I agree with Tweed on this electoral issue once again, Edwards complements Kerry well and its more important to get a general boost than to win in one particular state. Just forcing Bush to spend money in NC and VA would be significant, but its more important to keep an eye on the national situation. A 2% swing could turn 100 ev's in a close election, where the VP choice might actually make a difference.
