Bob Dole says Bob Dole's the winner here. Bob Dole knows the only person with less charisma than Bob Dole is Bob Dole. Bob Dole.

If only I was more familar with past elections.....so I'm gonna start with 1960 instead.

1960 - Nixon (by far)
1964 - Goldwater??
1968 - Probably Humphrey but I could see arguments for Nixon and Wallace as well
1972 - Nixon??
1976 - Ford
1980 - Carter
1984 - Mondale
1988 - Dukakis
1992 - I guess Perot but if we're not counting him then Bush
1996 - Dole
2000 - Bush??
2004 - Kerry
2008 - McCain (by far)
2012 - Romney
2016 - Clinton
2020 - Biden (more than Clinton but I think Trump has an edge just based on how he's basically an entertainer at his rallies)

It's interesting that 2020 was the first clear case of the more boring candidate winning in a very long time, probably since the 1970's.

Not too different from others, but IMO:

1932: Hoover
1936: Landon
1940: Wilkie
1944: Dewey
1948: Dewey
1952: Stevenson
1956: Stevenson
1960: Nixon
1964: Goldwater
1968: Nixon, not that Humphrey was a rockstar but Nixon was famously awkward and sketchy
1972: McGovern? Kind of a tie on this one
1976: Ford
1980: Carter
1984: Mondale
1988: Dukakis, although Bush wasn't much better
1992: Bush
1996: Dole
2000: Gore
2004: Kerry
2008: McCain
2012: Romney
2016: Clinton

Everyone here is neglecting that in '68, Nixon went on Laugh-In (Sock it to ME?) which gave him an effective charisma boost.
