In an attempt to decrease polarization and expand their appeal to the middle, both parties nominate tickets comprised of some of their most moderate/centrist officeholders. The Republican ticket has two Yankee RINOs who are socially liberal but fiscally conservative, while the Democratic ticket has two Southern Democrats who are both socially and fiscally moderate. How does this change electoral coalitions and the map? Does the Democratic ticket repel too many feminists (due to its pro-life leanings) and environmentalists (due to acceptance of oil and coal) to be acceptable in liberal states? Does the Republican ticket repel too many religious conservatives (due to pro-choice and pro-LGBT views) and Trumpers (both nominees having condemned Trump) to be acceptable in conservative/Southern states? Could we see a total realignment with, say, Vermont actually voting for Scott and Louisiana actually voting for Edwards on the presidential level?
