VAR vs JoeInator would be a bit of a throwback election, I think. I don't think VAR would be able to get enough working class turnout to win, but he'd get Romney-like margins in some suburbs:

RI is definitely more economically 'populist' than the average Republican. I suspect JoeInator is more so than the average Democrat too, but this seems less evident. Therefore recent #trends are on full display, except that JoeInator gets a home boost in New England.

The similarity of the candidates on social issues, and both campaigns' focus on economic issues, gives us a fairly standard map. Battista, having learned from Joe Biden's bare win in key states with high Hispanic populations, grants him his fortunes in much of the Southwest. We also see a slight reversion in political trends with RI making gains in the suburbs and Battista improving Democratic performance in rural areas, including traditional Democratic voting blocs with high Catholic populations. This battle becomes a Protestant v. Catholic divide, as well as rural vs urban. Scott starts with a very nice advantage, but Batista takes Nevada and comes close in Massachusetts. It's a very close primary until Accela comes in and the Italian-American population has their way.
