I can see him run in 2028 as a populist republican.
He won't run against Biden in 2024 obsviously ( he endorsed him ).
The Rock does have a chance to be elected though

As far as celebrities go, I'd much, much prefer him to Trump.

Rock vs. Steve Austin 4 in 2028/32 would be lit. But I don't really see him running in 2024, especially if Trump is the GOP nominee.

The Rock runs for Gov of California in 2022 and ekes out a win since it's an R-leaning midterm, then for president in 2028.

Not sure why it's automatically assumed he'd run as a Republican.

He spoke at the RNC (20 years ago, but still) and IMO he just gives off that moderate Republican vibe a la Schwarzenegger.

Yeah, but since then he's also changed his registration from R to I and endorsed Joe Biden.

He said in his Biden endorsement video he's a moderate but I've read in places that he's more like a Never Trump conservative. He'd definitely be what the Republicans need if they go for a political outsider again.

If he gets elected as a senator or mayor or something else first so that he has governing experience, then I would actually take the time to seriously consider him as a candidate and learn his policy views. As things are right now though, absolutely not. He seems like a very nice guy, but after the last administration, I consider some level of experience in public office is an absolute must. No exceptions.

Didn't he change his registration to D in the past couple years? He should've remained R imo, it would make him swooping in with his own brand of charismatic moderate populism/revived Schwarzenegger Republicanism more credible.

He should run for Senate or something....

Maybe in the 2030s.....

If people want athletes and entertainers to have a "platform" then don't be surprised if they want to run for political office.

Very few people have a genuine principled opposition to athletes or entertainers going into politics. What people object to is when they import a style-over-substance ethos from their previous field. Entertainer-politicians who avoid doing this can end up quite well-regarded, as indeed Schwarzenegger still in is some circles.

Yeah, Jack Kemp and Bill Bradley were athletes who genuinely learned how to be good public servants, than arrogant and ignorant celebrities. Ditto for most astronaut politicians.

I would prefer anybody to Trump. I would prefer Courtney Love to Trump. I would prefer Paris Hilton to Trump. I would prefer Peewee Herman to Trump. I would prefer OJ Simpson to Trump.

But I’d really rather we just nip this trend of unqualified celebrities leapfrogging straight to the presidency in the bud. If The Rock has some worthwhile political ability, he should prove it by running for a lower office first and actually get some experience governong.

Yeah, aside from dropping a Terminator quote now and then as a joke, Arnold largely governed very differently from how you might expect based on his previous career. Like an actual, normal, reasonably competent politician. Ironically he is the celebrity most qualified for the presidency right now, but he’s not allowed to run.
