And where in there did it say DeVos even backed that poster?  Heck, your article even said that at this point, he didn't--so nice observations:P.

Anyway--If that's what Granholm's Cool Cities is going to push--I don't want them.  I don't want our cities to be like Philadelphia and have a pro-gay nightlife (I forget what their slogan was).

MI banned gay marriage, so these Cool Cities could hurt Granholm and help DeVos as long as he doesn't associate himself too much w/ this flyer.

I doubt many people will associate Gay Marriage with Cool Cities. Besides, just because we banned gay marriage, It doesnt mean Michigan is hostile to the gay lifestyle. Cool Cities has gotten a good reception in my home city atleast. It has already contributed a nice riverside park and we are supposed to get a retired navy destroyer added as a riverside museum because of Cool Cities. People are beginning to notice the accomplishments Granholm is making. Just yesterday she helped add 450 jobs from ePrize to michigan by 2009. And Google is adding 1,200 jobs to Ann Arbor. I hope this atleast helps us in getting us off our dependence on the Automative industry.

Uh, I don't believe my city had a pro-gay slogan unless you consider "It's more fun when you sleep over" to be pro-gay.

Slogan was the wrong word--but there was a whole time where they were promoting a gay nightlife and it angered a lot of Christians.

I have nothing against Cool Cities as long as they don't try to attract gays outrightly.

The point of the g.m. ban was that if the point of gay cities was to atract gays, it could bring up some opposition.

First off, I'd like to see the proof (and not from MYDD) that DeVos is behind Adolph Mongo's attack. Mongo's a Kwame Kilpatrick guy, and there's a long feud between Detroit Mayor Kilpatrick and Granholm going back to his mayoral campaign.

As for the "Cool Cities=Gay" thing, that is based on Richard Florida's Creative Class.

A conservative friend of mine says that the left dose the same with PETA and such groups.  Sorry, but there is a difference between having animal lovers in your corner, and having Hitler in your corner.  Both are odd, but I'll take the PETA nuts anyday.

That's a horrible dodge.

1. Whats wrong with attracting them "outrightly"? Do you not like it when gays get uppity and start forgetting their place?

2. The gay marriage ban has nothing to do with this, there's far more to the whole debate over sexuality than marriage. (Discrimination, hospital visiting rights, adoption, the military segregation ban, etc.)

3. I love how the poster the article refered to rambled on from gay marriage to abortion ("killing unborn babies") to school prayer without missing a beat. These conservative Christians certainly have their agenda set out for them.

2.  It has everything to do w/ it--it shows that MI is not a pro-gay state.

The same reason I don't want adult entertainment centers or casinos.  I could care less what business it brings if it attracts a crowd that I don't want.  It's MY city, not the people that it attracts.

I don't give a rat's behind about what gays do as long as long as it involved consenting adults (IE Stay the hell outta the schools) and my tax money doesn't pay for it.

That said, I don't like "Bohemian" Culture one bit. That's my problem with 'cool cities'. It's all superficial horse manure. (As is postmaterialism in general)

Your objection to gay people kissing in public is that it's too postmaterialistic? Tongue

And I don't think anything "straight related" should belong in public schools.  What's the middle ground?

LOL. I was referring to almost all of Richard Florida's entire "creative class" thesis. About the only thing I agree with him is on the importance of hard sciences (Engineers).

I don't think anything gay related should belong in public schools.

That's ridiculous and biased.  Brown v. Board of Education ended discrimination based on meaningless factors in school systems.

If anything, knowledge about gay cukture should be greatly strengthened because polls about gay marriage shows the public is wholly unaware of the people and who they are.

Agreed--save whatever you want to do (or whoever) for after school--school is for learning, not matchmaking.
