1. Fela Kuti
2. Carole King
3. Jay-Z

Devo is a borderline case.

It's honestly astonishing that Fela Kuti has never made a ballot before, and is only included because #BLM is in vogue, but the Hall of Fame is a joke, anyway.

Carole King and Jay-Z for sure. Shocked the former isn’t in there already, or the latter given other rappers they’ve inducted. I can also see a case for Devo, Foo Fighters, The Go-Gos, Iron Maiden, Rage Against the Machine, and Tina Turner.

I only care that Iron Maiden gets in.  And why in the hell has Styx never been inducted.  No group in history has had 4 straight double platinum albums - not the Beatles, Stones, Zep, Aerosmith, nada, no group.

My votes go to Kate Bush, Devo, Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, Rage Against The Machine.

Well, Tina Turner probably deserves more than Kate Bush, but by coincidence just this morning I got fixated with Wuthering Heights so I feel like voting for the latter. The only thing by Jay-Z I have ever listened to before is 99 Problems, and nothing by Dionne Warwick. I have literally no idea who all the other names on the list are.

Better question: at what point is the "Rock & Roll" Hall of Fame renamed what it has become - the Music Hall of Fame?

It's better if you think of "rock and roll" as a musical family tree or philosophy, rather than a genre. There are some bizarre inclusions, like Whitney Houston or Madonna, but those are honestly mostly there for gender and/or racial balance and name recognition. Some of the early hip hop groups (specifically Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five and Beastie Boys) were good inclusions, imo.

The bigger problem is that they strongly favor commercially successful, but musically unimportant artists (e.g. Genesis, Bon Jovi, Eagles) over artists who helped shaped the course of rock music (Joy Division, Brian Eno, Television, to name a few), but I guess that comes down to whether you think a Hall of Fame should be about giving further recognition to people who became the most famous (a very literal Hall of Fame), or about recognizing people who made important contributions, regardless of their commercial success.

There are only four I care about: Devo, Iron Maiden, Rage Against the Machine, and Tina Turner. I don't care who the fifth is.

Great nominees, especially Kate Bush, RATM, and Devo.

Nice to see Fela Kuti getting some love, though I personally prefer Ebo Taylor.

I've only checked LZ and Aerosmith, and they both did better than 4 double platinums in a row.

LZ did it for all 8 of their studio albums

and Aerosmith did it twice (the first 5 albums and the first four after they got clean)

Maybe Styx did it in a certain time frame (for example, the first Aerosmith album didn't start selling well until the Toys and Rocks came out) or some other wording of the bit of trivia that makes them special, but it's certainly not true that they are the only band to go double platinum 4 albums in a row.

as for the list, I'm not really a fan of any of them save maybe The Foo Fighters.  I respect a lot of them, but it's not really my cup of tea.

I voted Todd Rundgren, Tina Turner, The Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden and The New York Dolls.

(I'll save you all my rant against RATM)

Rage Against the Machine is probably the best and most influential band on there.

So I just checked the actual fan vote leaderboard and wow...

Fela Kuti jumped from like last place to third place, just under Tina and the Foo Fighters.

Was there a social media campaign or something? It doesn't seem usual for there to be a massive jump like that.

Tina Turner should get in, just for Goldeneye alone.

Also, how on earth is Carole King not in yet?

Nigeria is a huge country, and they're not voting for Iron Maiden or the Foo Fighters, lol. Plus, many other people also recognize that Fela Kuti practically created a genre, put Africa on the global music map, and influenced a wide range of artists.

I don't like how broadly they define "rock".

I voted Iron Maiden and Rage Against The Machine. Would have voted Foo Fighters but I feel it's a few years too early for that band.

Thanks, dead0.  Maybe I was thinking they were the first to do it.  Either way, it's a small club and they belong in the Hall.
