If Ford won in 1976, and Bob Dole beat Reagan for the nomination in 1980, how would he have done against Frank Church?

Vice President Bob Dole (R-KS) / Congressman Jack Kemp (R-NY)
Senator Frank Church (D-ID) / Governor Reubin Askew (D-FL) ✓

Someone like Henry Jackson would be better suited for a Democrat version of the Reagan Revolution, but Church would win pretty handily with the Ford administration dead on arrival and reelected by a razor-thin margin. Neither candidate is a good fit for the South.
