The Lt. Governor primary is shaping up to be a clown car

I don’t get how it’s a “race” when they run as a ticket and are picked by the canidate for Gov.

Convinced if she wasn’t running JK3 would be running. Anyway she wins this easily….

Because they're not always picked by the candidate for Governor? Healey could very well stay out of the LG race.

Yeah, even for Baker she would be very serious opponent. It will be funny to see what Diehl will be able to do... I would still prefer more sane Republican candidate, but in this case it will, probably, not matter.

Endorsing Healey. She will be the next Governor of Massachusetts, and it won't be close.

I think she only jumped into the race because Baker announced his retirement wouldn't have challenged him otherwise. She easily just could have waited for another cycle.

Fully agree. IIRC - she is only about 50...

She'll do very well as Gov.  Hopeful she can be a solid partner with the state house.

Haven't been following this closely. Is there a reason Kennedy passed on running? I would've guessed he'd be all over this.

Consensus seems to be Diehl will win the nomination and lose the general by being a lunatic, so I'm curious-

Do any of you think Lt. Gov. Polito would have won? Personally I think she could have.

Doubtful, she's more conservative than Baker. Maybe not nearly as as right as the average Republican today, but too conservative to win a state like Massachusetts on her own. If I remember correctly, she was picked in 2014 to sort of appease more conservative Republicans. Her association with Baker certainly would have given Polito a few extra point, I just don't see it being enough to win against a candidate like Maura Haley. Coming within ten percent would probably the best she can do.

Healeys too popular she's gonna win the Primary and General in a cakewalk. Honestly tho Kennedy Would have a pretty decent shot at winning the LG race the field is super fractured  He could also go for Healey's old spot as AG if he wanted to. Maybe he's just exhausted from electoral politics after how disastrously his race against Markey went in 2020.

Perhaps he's worried about losing goodwill within the state party. His primary run against Markey backfired, and Healey is one of the top Democrats in the state so he wouldn't want to burn that bridge. Joe's run against Markey going down in flames indicates that the Kennedys aren't the stars they once were in terms of Massachusetts politics, and that MA voters don't flock to them as they did in the past.
