Probably - too tired to fight own party, which doesn't want to support the only candidate, who can win, and instead - will root for unelectable Diehl

P.S. I said that many times, and repeat: US electoral politics becomes more and more idiotic with time...

Well, this was Biden's 2nd best state, so Democrats should have at least one pickup next year.

I already predicted he wouldn't run a few days ago. Not surprising.

Hopefully the inevitable Governor Healey goes too far and the state elects a Republican down the road to stop the madness.

It took 2 attempts even for Baker. And where do you see "second Baker"?

Most likely someone in his administration. After all, Baker himself was an official in Bill Weld's administration and Hogan was one in Bob Ehrlich's.

Or maybe an outsider who's not on our radars today. Youngkin's victory arguably proved that the concept of a "bench" is overrated.

Most likely either someone in his administration or a Youngkin-type outsider businessman. After all, Baker himself was an official in Bill Weld's administration.

Small correction: Youngkin would have zero chances of victory in Massachusetts

No. It is a loss. You need blue state Republicans and red state Democrats. You need flexibility.

Baker was a check on the Democrats' taxes.

Even moderate Democrats find property taxes confiscatory. Why overtax? Where is the taxes going? Baker vetoed a lot of tax increases and his tax cuts created a lot of jobs in Boston, etc.

In Governor's races, it's pretty even.

MA, MD, and VT seem fairly balanced by LA, KS, KY at the moment.

Sir, don't argue with Democratic (or Republican, for that matter) "activist". It's useless. They are .... singleminded (to put it VERY mildly)...

The difference is that MA, MD, and VT all survived a Dem wave environment in 2018.  The three Dems in red states won’t survive a GOP wave environment.

Diehl would still put up a reasonable margin. He did well against an incumbent (Warren) in a blue midterm, even winning a county.

Well, red state Dems tend to break from the national party less in this era.  You had Baker/Hogan/Scott all publicly opposing Trump in 2020.  Scott announced he was voting for Biden.  There's no comparison on the Dem side.  Even JBE didn't endorse Trump.
