It seems like Schwartz is stronger than expected over the liberal Angelidas.

The Governator will win in the end, this will just go back and forth with Arnold holding the lead most of the time.

I wouldn't be so sure, Field research and public policy are conserv pollsters, I would wait for an independent pollster like Gallup or Survey USA to make up my mind. But right now I would give the edge to Schwartz because Hotline predicted a Schwartz victory. And Schwartz is still under 50% in the polls. Also, Angelidas had a bruising primary and Schwartz didn't have one. I expect Angelidas to pull it out but it will take some time.

Westly would have been the much strongest candidate. But the liberals are more energized as an outparty when a republican is in the wh.

Field is actually the "gold standard" polling company in California.

Really?  They seemed kind of out on their own in 2004 a lot of the time, from what I remember.

Nothing like the real "quality" pollster in California [/sarcasm]

No it's not.  I have lived in California all of my 22 years, I was an intern the Governor's Los Angeles office, and I now work for his campaign.  I have never heard anyone refer to him as "Schwartz" until I read this thread.

Yea, and they predicted Kerry would win OH and FL in the summer of 2004.

Polls are not predictions.  They are snapshots in time.  No poll ever "predicts" anything, they simply give us an idea of the state of the race at a given moment.

Perhaps those polls showed Kerry winning OH and FL in summer of '04 because he was ahead in summer of '04.  He was not ahead on election day, though.  Don't make a judgement about a pollster because a poll they took in the summer didn't match up with the election result five months later.

I am simply saying just like we should consider Univ of Cincy poll that you should consider all of the polls before you reach a judgement about a particular race. This race is too close to call as the NY Times is saying the same thing.

I am happy to accept your unjustified optimism if you accept that no one out here calls the Governor "Schwartz".

Well I think that this race will be determined by all the polls in CA not just the conservative ones, just like in OH and FL they go by both the main media polls and Mason-Dixon.

If you are going to mock my comments, go ahead, but you shouldn't mock me. All I was trying to say, you should go by all the polls in the state not just a selected few.
