Massive freedom fighter. One of my favorite actors and probably even one of the greatest actors in general.

He starred in only 1 of 2 musicals I thoroughly enjoyed.  The Sound of Music.

(the other being Fiddler on the Roof)

That's literally the only musical I love.

He was the best aspect of 'The Sound of Music' though.

Julie Andrews says otherwise.

I suppose so, I just can't stand the corniness of the musical.

A wonderful actor for so many reasons - I think the voice (what a voice!) and his ability to project a genuine sense of absolute dignity would be the main ones. A performance to really admire is the one he gave in The New World. He found Malick's methods to be strange and surreal to the point of being actively disturbing but ploughed on regardless. And here's the thing: that sense of a highly dignified man trying to maintain that dignity in the face of a very confusing situation in which up is down and down is up is exactly what Malick will have been looking for when he cast him and the effect is brilliant, simply brilliant. That same ability to project a sense of dignity is also why his performance in Knives Out is so deeply and touchingly funny. And that voice. We must, again, mention that voice.

Christopher Plummer never unclogged my drain though(which sounds surprisingly dirty as I type it).
