Can't imagine he'd be interested after what he went through last year.

Do the GOP rank-and-file know something I don’t?

Yeah, that Donald Trump is their God.

He's your god too.

Brooks considering:

It would be an immense downgrade if Brooks were to succeed Shelby, comparable to, and perhaps even worse than, the downgrade we experienced when Jones was succeeded by Tuberville.

I was gonna say Brooks isn’t as bad cause he (hopefully) knows the three branches, but then he’s worse cause he might actually know how to write a bill outlawing the color blue or whatever trumpians are foaming about this week

According to Wikipedia, which should be taken with a grain of salt, here are the potential nominees. Shelby and Sessions both declined:

Publicly Expressed Interest

Mo Brooks, U.S. Representative for Alabama's 5th congressional district and candidate for U.S. Senate in 2017
John Merrill, Alabama Secretary of State and candidate for U.S. Senate in 2020

Potential

Robert Aderholt, U.S. Representative for Alabama's 4th congressional district
Will Ainsworth, Lieutenant Governor of Alabama
Lynda Blanchard, former United States Ambassador to Slovenia
Katie Britt, former Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Richard Shelby
Bradley Byrne, former U.S. representative for Alabama's 1st congressional district and candidate for U.S. Senate in 2020
    Tommy Hanes, state representative
    Steve Marshall, Alabama Attorney General
Gary Palmer, U.S. Representative for Alabama's 6th congressional district
Jessica Taylor, businesswoman, attorney, and candidate for Alabama's 2nd congressional district in 2020

If their politics are going to suck anyway, might as well be Jessica Taylor

Welcome to the forum!

But, yes the Blue Avatars hoping a non-crazy candidate can jump in and win the primary is just sad at this point.

Of course Brooks will win the general. Whether or not he wins the primary, on the other hand, is a different story.

I wonder how many people there are who served 20+ years in the house before moving up to another job (Senate/Governor etc) like Aderholdt would be. There can’t be many.

Marsha Blackburn?

Only 16 years in the House under her belt (same as Bernie & Ron Wyden), but Schumer had 18, Ben Cardin had 20, & Ed Markey famously had 37.

Nathan Deal is another one, he had 18 like Schumer.

Found this article. Given this, it seems like Byrne probably won't run.

Trump aide who penned White House tell-all considering Alabama Senate run

Cliff Sims, who fell out with Trump and then patched things up with him, has gotten encouragement from former boss John Ratcliffe.

Her last name is Blanchard... Does she want to blanch someone or get blanched? The latter is more likely given this is Alabama.
