She was also Shelby's chief of staff and his chosen successor

There was a suggestion a few months ago that he’d stand down and have her be appointed in his place, is that still likely? That seems the best chance of stopping Brooks.

Given what happened to Luther Strange, I don't think an appointed incumbent would have much of a chance, unless, of course Ivey decided to appoint Brooks (which I wouldn't rule out, since he appears to be the frontrunner in a Republican Primary for a safe seat.)

Because running in a GOP primary as an appointed incumbent worked out so well for the last guy that tried it in AL. I can almost hear the attack ads that imply a "corrupt bargain" already.

Imagine this senate duo if Moore won in 2017: Senator Mo Brooks (F-AL) and Senator Roy Moore (P-AL)

What if Alabama ended up with two unrelated Senator Moores, Roy and Barry?

Whoa, that's a pretty wild prediction this far out. Any evidence to back up your claim?

I mean. they did vote out their moderate Dem incumbent last year by over 20 points.

Hmm, I'm skeptical. We'll have to see what the national environment is like.

The last appointed incumbent beat Mo Brooks despite all of that.

True enough, but Brooks probably gets the vast majority of the Moore vote this time thanks to his 4 years of Trump-love.

Rs lost election even in 2017 when Trump didnt have insurrection behind him. Biden isn't 46% prez and has 59% approvals due to fact he passed stimulus 🤑 2022 isnt presidential yr and Rs didnt win AL-Sen in midterms since 2014 when there was Sessions, who got corrupted in Justice Dept with Ukraine and failed to investigate Hunter. Consequently, Jones entering election would make race tossup and wave insurance with 55 D senate allowing Biden to replace Breyer and Roberts on crt. Brooks has supported insurrection and Rs are 9 behind in generic ballot 😆😆

She seems nice enough, not really very impressive though. I hope she beats Mo Brooks in the primary

I would hope so also, but I don't think so. Brooks has the Trump endorsement, and the Republican base tends to value ideological rigidity above all else.

At least Britt is more of a traditionally conservative Republican in the mold of Shelby, as opposed to a Trump-cultist like Brooks. It probably wouldn't hurt for a not-insignificant number of Democrats to vote in the Republican primary - since primaries are open in AL - so as to help a relatively saner person like Britt compared to her diehard Trumpist alternatives.

SHE is impressive. This announcement is NOT because it's a generic chamber of commerce ad lacking enthusiasm.

Only one mention of Trump in the announcement video, and it wasn't even really referring to him. Definitely clear what the battle lines will look like in this primary.

I’d love to be wrong, but pretty sure it will be the cult leader’s.

Shelby, if I recall, also supported Sessions, and we saw what happened with him. I don't think he will be of much help to Britt, unfortunately. That seat will go to Brooks.

Well, the cult leader also endorsed Strange. But I guess you're right.
