If Xi's inner circle hadn't thrown such a tantrum and tried to suppress the meme, I doubt it would have become such a viral sensation.

Legitimately, it's probably gotten more mileage out of the Streisand Effect, with people just trying to p*ss off the CCP in tiny ways, than actually being funny.

It started in China itself when someone compared a picture of him and Obama to Pooh and Tigger. Other politicians became other Pooh characters and a toy car was used. When term limits were removed, a photo of “King Winnie” was banned.

The regime tackles Chinese nationals more than it targets Westerners.  I won’t delete the thread given China is committing genocide.

I made these anti-CCP posts while living with a Chinese national in China, who was actually roommates with two students who were killed when the party in the square was crashed.

More recently, Chinese nationals in China have been jailed for tweeting or even retweeting anti-CCP content, so there's that. But those who are knowledgeable enough to post on a US political discussion board are already questionable in the eyes of the CCP already.
