They absolutely existed. Northwest Arkansas had some, as did Western Wisconsin and Lower Illinois.

Not very common, I suppose, but they are not difficult to imagine. For example, probably a good deal of middle-aged and old people in the Great Plains affected by the Farm Crisis of the 1980's voted that way.

Moderate suburbanites in the Northeast, particularly in the Collar Counties of Philadelphia, Northern New Jersey, and the New York City metropolitan area, would probably fit into this category. These same voters were also Clinton 1996 voters and probably have voted Democratic since.
