Now that Mr. Trump made it clear he wants to play a role in 2022 midterms, Kevin McCarthy is perfectly willing to get in line behind the cult leader 3 weeks after he sort of condemned Trump's role in insurrection and impeachers like Cheney under fire for once doing the right thing, why wouldn't the GOP install their dear Fuhrer as Speaker of the House if they take control of the House? The speaker doesn't have to be a congressman himself and thw House is more likely to flip than not. Trump definitely would have the votes on the floor then. Even if the majority is relatively close after all Trump critics will have retired or lost their primary.

Becoming speaker would once again give Trump a public platform and status as de facto opposition leader to the Biden Admin. It would also give him more attention for another WH bid. And we all know how much Mr. Trump is addicted to attention. His greatest fear is irrelevance.

I know that sounds crazy, but considering it took the GOP just 3 weeks to fully turn back to a man who is guilty of insurrection, I would no longer rule it out entirely.

Ugh. The 2023 State of the Union would be a nightmare.
It would be the first 2020 debate all over again.

More to the point, between the annual budgets and the debt ceiling, it would be a serious crisis for the country. Trump has no appetite for serious policy, and his 'own the libs' style of governance could be even worse in the House than it was in the White House.

Depending on what the exact GOP margin is in the House, there may indeed be the votes to do this. However, it would be very difficult to manage both this and a 2024 presidential campaign, so it probably doesn't actually occur.

Beyond doubtful, because Trump will already get attention if he decides to run again. Or is able to, I should say. Other than preparing for a presidential bid, becoming speaker wouldn't make that much sense. If he's able to run again, it would be better to do so from the outside with his populist tone. If he's in office, it's more difficult to run against Washington DC. And that has always be his lane.

As insane as the House Republicans are, I just can't see that. He's always been more "beneficial" to them when they're sharing a ballot rather than when he's actually tried working & negotiating with those on the Hill. Not to mention, he'd probably just consider it a demotion after having already been President, so I'd be really surprised if he had any remote interest in the job whatsoever.

It'd be awesome, though, given that it'd be perhaps the worst job for him imaginable: all work & no pomp. He'd practically be guaranteed to cripple their majority by being terrible at everything.

Speaker can’t sit around all day watching Fox News and delegating to friends and family.
