Abbott's team just needs to dig up that Democratic debate clip of him wanting to take people's guns and run it ad nauseum over the next year or so.  For me, that destroys O'Rourke's hopes of winning.

Prepare for a new description for him on wikipedia... "Beto O'Rourke - perennial candidate, former Representative".

Can we just not Beto. I'm seriously over his insufferable narcissism. I admit he made a good run of it in 2018; but if he was serious about trying that route again he would've laid low and built the foundation for a second run after his disastrous and publicly humiliating run for President. This is the 'I was just born to be in it' type attitude all-over again.

Veronica Escobar, Lina Hidalgo, Julian Castro, Amanda Edwards, Cristina Ramirez, it isn't like we're lacking for a bench here in Texas.

Hell I'd sooner start a Marxists for McConaughey™ group before backing Beto again...

Only if VR passed will this be competetive due to Border crisis barring that safe 55/45 Abbott win

If he wanted to run for something again he should have waited until the 2024 senate race.

Great news. Beto is doing the Democratic Party a favor win or lose. You have to compete.

Exactly. Just because his Dem Prez campaign didn't go well doesn't mean anything.

I guess Klobuchar is also going to lose because her campaign went down in flames too! People need to realize that that primary is its own thing and has no bearing on any of these senators/governor races (just like how people keep bringing it up with Kamala as well)

The difference is Klobuchar didn't make herself look like a complete idiot when running for president.

It's not just that his campaign for president faiked.

It's that he was so hyped up by everyone, including quite a large number of people on this very forum. I remember people on here saying that he was going to smash Bernie Sanders and be the next Obama. That his fundraising numbers meant he was the greatest candidate of all time (after spending months telling Sanders supporters fundraising doesn't matter). Hell, there was even a thread that compared his path to the White House to Lincoln's.

And then it fell apart in the single most spectacular way possible. He burst out into Spanish randomly in the middle of a debate, made that stupid remark about breaking into peoples' houses to take their AR-15s, then had that stupid, STUPID "Born to be in it" interview, which highlighted him for what he was: ego-driven and simply running because he had nothing better to do. Kinda like a certain MA-Senate candidate he endorsed.

I hope that the establishment doesn’t coronate either him or another candidate and instead allows each candidate to try to win on their own merits. That way, the nominee, whether it’s him or someone else, will likely be more battle-tested going into the GE as opposed to winning with the establishment’s endorsement.

O'Rourke is as clumsy as hell. A Progressive Tax Hiker & Spending Spree is the last thing the Democratic Party needs right now.

If anything he should wait to 2024 and announce another Senate Run if Cruz runs for POTUS!

I don't love Beto much these days either, but I wouldn't say James got much closer than Beto in their senate races lol. Beto lost by 2.6%, while James lost by 1.7%; less than 1% of a difference.

To be fair, his 2018 campaign was really good and he came impressively close to winning. That being said, he has no hope now. His going left on social issues (particularly guns) during his pathetic 2020 campaign is going to hunt him badly in this race, and it's gonna be much harder to run a localized campaign now that he had that national exposure. Combine that with how R the environment is likely to be next year, and he's toast.
