Every Democrat would. But if he runs an aggressive campaign, he can gin progressive turnout up and make the GOP have to compete more than they would normally.

How?

Safe R, even if Beto runs. If Biden didn’t win it last year Beto definitely isn’t winning it in a Biden midterm.

BOLD PREDICTION TIME

If Beto's the nominee, Harris County could possibly be a bit more competitive than usual. Beto still wins it though but it definitely swings to the right by a few points.

Also some of y'all may not know this, but Fort Bend County actually voted for Abbott in 2018. It's certainly possible it could stay red this time, or maybe it votes to the left of Harris County.

For someone who frequents Fort Bend and Harris on a daily basis.

HELL NO.

Yea you're probably right.

[/b]Although how did Abbott win Fort Bend in 2018? Albeit it was a plurality and he didn't win Harris but was it his suburban appeal?[/b]

Greg Abbott's opponent basically never campaigned at all. No one knew her name.

O'Rourke should consider running for Senate in 2024....he can beat Cruz in a presidential year.

If Beto moderates his gun stance, he could stand a chance.

D's shouldn't spend one nickle on this race but FL Gov with Crist will get competetive

Abbott will win

What do you mean, how? Campaign as a pugilist, forcefully antagonize the GOP flush with ad dollars, engage the thousands of young people who still aren't active in Texas politics. Kinda like, ya know, he did last time?

This, though, I don't think so. Beto can't win. All he can hope to do is build party infrastructure, engage new voters, and force the GOP to spend $$

No Democrat is winning this election in a Biden midterm.

Imo Beto should pass on this race and run for Lieutenant Governor or Attorney General, both Paxton and Patrick look very vulnerable, plus the LG is incredibly powerful in TX anyways, maybe it sets him up for a Governor bid 4 years down the line or a 2024/2026 Senate bid.

Whew....

Beto became a name because he seemed authentic and worked his tail off traveling all over Texas for 18 months. He can create energy — and like he did in 2018, that “energy” can help elect down-ballot democrats. That energy can also be a massive waste of resources in a race that he loses by double digits.

No matter what, the thought that he would flip flop on guns... is hilarious. He should stand behind what he said (even with the rough polling numbers) and, in large part, defend what he said. Good luck to him, because it’s going to hurt, but at least people will believe him as an authentic messenger.
