My parents rented a beach house at Gulf Shores AL for the entire family about 17 years ago, and me and the wife shared the bottom half of a bunk bed, while the two girls (at the time) slept on the top bunk and my sons slept on the floor in a closet.  It was tight.

Before that it was AF Basic Training.  I did not have a bunk mate on top.

I suppose three and a half years ago while in a sleeping car on the Southwest Chief during my honeymoon counts as my last time.  Before that, college.

I think it was in May 2019 at the national final of the Mathematical Olympiad but I am not completely sure whether I actually had a bunk bed. Otherwise, I certainly slept in one in April 2019 at the national final of the "Olympiads of the Italian language".

When I went camping in a cabin, not a tent, most places since Covid hit are done with camps even Church camps have gone by the boards

When I went to a Christian summer camp the summer before 11th grade. I had the top bunk, and did not participate in the sexual activities that were rampant, despite the religious nature of the camp.

Before that, it was at a summer camp run by the state police that involved a lot of running and PT exercises led by Army veterans with untreated mental illnesses and JROTC cadets who took out their anger on preteens. I signed up because they had an assembly at my middle school and said there would be free pizza, lmao. I had the bottom bunk and there was so much yelling during the day that I woud dream I was getting shouted at while I was in bed and I would get up to sleepwalk/stand "at attention." Edit to add. We did get the free pizza tho

Is there a reason they slept in the closet, or was that a reference to having a gay son?

it was due to a lack of space, the younger boy was just a toddler and the older boy was 10ish.

In the past decade, only on sleeper trains, which I only rarely take. I'm glad ÖBB trains have single cabins.

Beijing to Changchun in a K-series train, sharing a 4-berth sleeper cabin with 3 random rural Chinese people was a terrible experience, but I fortunately slept through most of it.

I just found the idea of sleeping in the closet rather than the floor of the main room a little odd, but if one was a toddler, the security of a confined space makes more sense.

we didn't want to get up in a strange place in the middle of the night to pee and step on a kid

Undergrad.

That's simply what the university's town-houses came with. Luckily by the end, I had no roommate to deal with.

I've had a bunk bed my whole life basically.  I've basically always slept on top bunk.
