lol, beshear's won powell county by 1 vote. (bevin won it by 5 points)

nicholas county went from +1 beshear in 2019 to +12 beshear tonight

Is that result confirmed? NYT says only 82% of the (expected) vote in.

Beshear looks headed for a win but has no coattails.  All the other GOP candidates are up by big double digits.

Sure, but that's not a surprise at all.

Not a surprise but it shows the limits of some of his electoral reach.  And it doesn't bode well for the future of the state Democratic Party.

Well yeah, Beshear will probably be the last Democrat elected statewide, barring another Bevin perfect storm.

I mean, who doesn't know that Kentucky is a Republican state?

The trends are pretty grim, but their bench isn’t empty. If he runs again, Rocky Adkins might give them a fighting chance.

this is the "completed" result from the state board of elections website, with all precincts reporting. probably less than the expected bc turnout has been really low in eastern ky: just 31% in powell county, 800 fewer total votes than in 2019

It's just that people don't care about this nearly as much as the GOP thinks they do. It's their equivalent of progressives saying "defund the police" because they spend too much time on Twitter. Reality is bread and butter issues like education and healthcare matter more to people for the most part.

Lol, Beshear is leading in Fulton county in the south west corner of the state. Wasn't expecting that. Although only 15% is in.

I remember going there once and it was the most sterotypical, racist, hick, redneck place I've ever been.

Probably one of the two black precincts in the county. I wouldn't expect Beshear to win it in the end.

Another race where half the forum convinced themselves that there was “late movement” based on terrible polling and *~vibes~* which wasn’t borne out by reality. It’s 2022 all over again.

No? This had very little to do with, and is not any kind of bellwether regarding, the national scene. Had this been the slightest referendum on Biden or the Democrats in Washington, Beshear would've lost in a landslide. This is popular-competent-incumbent-running-on-bread-and-butter 101.

One of the reasons I voted Beshear was bc not only did the Dems use the GOPs heinous social fascism against them but the GOP literally embraced the fascism themselves. It wasn’t even until the last two weeks where Cameron started running on bread and butter issues like “getting rid of the state income tax” they’d rather embolden bullies to pick on gay people instead.

Rocky is already 64 years old.  Not really fresh blood for them.

I guess the Dems can have Allison Grimes come back out but some of her brand was tarnished near the end of her time as Secretary of State.

However, Adkins and Grimes are probably all the Dems have for 2027 at this point.  And Adkins abortion position is going to be a tough sell in a primary.

Can someone explain to me why Andy Beshear has such high support among conservative voters? He's not even that moderate. Is it his last name?

He's not a JBE or even Laura Kelly (who tacked to the right on trans sports issues) either. That's the confusion.

Why has Sununu won all the NH-Govs races until now [retiring]? There's your answer.

It just shows the Democrat coalitions are not in fact collapsing once the voting actually takes place. The doom and gloom about 2024 needs to stop. Dems have 2024 in the bag up and down the pipeline. Bookmark this (and many other posts) for next year!
