A Iowan farmer? I would assume that this person is an independent who voted for Nixon in 1972 because they thought McGovern was too radical. They then went for Carter in 1976 because of Watergate, and Carter's claim to be an "outsider" candidate who would restore honesty and integrity to the White House. Such person then swung to Reagan in 1980 because of the Iran Hostage Crisis, stagflation, and high gas prices. The Farm Crisis then impacted them personally, and they voted for Mondale in 1984 and Dukakis in 1988 because of it.

Such a person was then susceptible to Ross Perot's appeals in 1992, and liked the fact that like Carter, he portrayed himself as an outsider. In 1996, however, they were satisfied with the booming economy and didn't see any reason to shake up the status quo, so consequently went for Bill Clinton. Moving beyond the 1996 election, this person probably went for Bush in 2000 (Monica Lewinsky? and "Honor in the White House" concerns), Kerry in 2004 (Iraq War), and Obama in 2008 and 2012 (Great Recession/Romney elitism), before moving to Trump in 2016 and 2020 (protectionism, "outsider" status, and Culture War issues). I could also see this person as being a Gore 2000/Bush 2004 and a Trump 2016/Biden 2020 voter.
