I do occasionally a few times a year, just to get a sense of how things are here. In general I have been cutting down on all social media, and so it wasn't difficult to cut out old atlas.

To increase posting activity and the quality of the users. Also, to increase the frequency of articles on the aad website.

A sizeable chunk of my favorite films and movies are pre-1970.

Also, considering that I'm older than most Atlas users, it makes sense for me to be seen as retro.

I generally prefer chatting with friends on the phone as opposed to texting/messaging them.

Figures someone from LA would be a classic movie buff. Does Netflix still have any good classics that you'd recommend?

Since you're one of Greater Atlas's biggest LA boosters, got some local questions for you:

  • Three most and least favorite neighborhoods and why?
  • What do you see the city's near-future looking like?
  • Favorite bit of local history trivia? (Personally, mine is what a weirdo career Gaylord Wilshire had.)

1a Favorites:

Downtown LA, for the walkability and unique places. It still has a 1920s/1930s art deco vibe that I really like. I also love giving visiting Atlas members the fames "Retromike Downtown LA tour" where I mix fun facts with historical fiction that I make up on the spot.

Hollywood can be a bit too touristy, but I feel it's on the upswing and I love seeing a big movie there on the first day it's out.

The Miracle Mile section has LACMA (the art museum currently under reconstruction), and will soon have a film museum. It's a very hipstery area but the food is great.

1b Least favorites:

There's nothing interesting about the entire San Fernando Valley.

San Pedro is somehow always disappointing, like if it's one of the few parts of the city of Los Angeles that has a coastline, it should be far more attractive as a location.

South Los Angeles is pretty uninteresting. This is a place to live, not a place to visit.

2. Regrettably, unless there are some big changes, the cost of living LA is going to keep kicking out working class people out to the desert or Arizona until the center becomes this high income bubble. We need more affordable housing asap. Working from home permanently may slightly reduce the traffic but we still need more (and possibly) free public transit.

3. In the wild west days they used to have public hangings where the 110/101 interchange is currently located. Also, when ppl visit LA sometimes I like to take them to filming locations and challenge them to guess the film.

Netflix doesn't have a decent collection imo, but some I would recommend that I found there are:

A Clockwork Orange
Taxi Driver
Bonnie and Clyde
