Ah yes, "the 2022 Senate race in Ohio was always going to be competitive" even when Portman was considered a lock for re-election, & this is "the Democrats' No. 1 opportunity to flip a seat from (non-Atlas) red to (non-Atlas) blue" even though the open Toomey seat & John Fetterman's desire for it both exist. It almost makes too much sense!

The difference between Jordan and Hastert is that Jordan is accused of covering up a team physician's sexual assaults, while Hastert was the assailant and paid hush money to silence his victims. Nevertheless, Jordan is an odious character, and I think he recognized that it would be easier for him to keep his Safe House seat then go for a potentially risky Senate bid (a bid which I think he still would have been the favorite for, unfortunately; Ohio is slipping away from Democrats).

I think it was just a combination of him having more factional power in the House & being in-line for Judiciary Chair if the GOP were to take back the majority.

It seems like a pandemic doctor’s experience might not be that relevant or compelling by November 2022.

And in any event, it's not like running as a doctor even in the middle of the pandemic helped out another Democratic candidate (Barbara Bollier) running for the Senate in a significantly-Republican state.

Didn't he drop out of that Senate race to focus on a familial health issue? Even if that wasn't the real reason, it was the plausibly-deniable public justification, so in the event that it was true, it just makes Trump look like even more of an asshole than he obviously already was.
