This is obviously very likely R and the Republican replacing Portman will be worse.
But is there any chance Tim Ryan will run for this because of his district being unwinnable after redistricting?

It seems like the smartest move for him, doesn’t it? And if he loses, he can fall upward into a job with Biden.

Shocking news. The real fun to watch here will be the GOP primary. I'm not too optimistic about Dems' chances in this.

The thought of Gym Jordan as Senator is sickening, but I guess we just have to wait and see.

Calling this race "titanium R" is a complete misuse of the term. It's likely R.

I mean, if it's something like Tim Ryan vs. Jim Jordan, it's barely Lean R. Ohio is not that gone for democrats, everyone needs to calm their tits.

It's a Biden midterm though, I'd agree with you if it was a Trump 6th year itch.

LOTS of candidates looking at this race.

The most likely Republican candidates seem to be:

* Jon Husted, Lieutenant Governor and former Secretary of State
* Jim Jordan, Congressman and founding Freedom Caucus member
* Josh Mandel, former Treasurer of State and Senate candidate (2012)

He'd very likely win, unfortunately, but wouldn't it be cool to see him run and lose a senate race for the third time? Would probably be a record in Ohio at least.

Semi-serious question: Would this be a tossup race or better for Dems if LeBron ran?

no

Yes

Ah yes, "the 2022 Senate race in Ohio was always going to be competitive" even when Portman was considered a lock for re-election, & this is "the Democrats' No. 1 opportunity to flip a seat from (non-Atlas) red to (non-Atlas) blue" even though the open Toomey seat & John Fetterman's desire for it both exist. It almost makes too much sense!

She has to say this nonsense, she's a party person. What do you expect her to say? "We're still not gonna win unless we get really, really, lucky and thread a needle but please give us money which is probably going to end up being a waste?"

Some Democratic names being thrown around other than Tim Ryan's:

* Nan Whaley, Dayton Mayor and former Gubernatorial candidate (2018)
* John Cranley, Cincinnati Mayor
* Kathleen Cycle, former Portage County Commissioner and candidate for Secretary of State (2018)
* David Pepper, former ODP Chairman and candidate for Attorney General (2014)
* Emilia Sykes, Ohio House Minority Leader
* Danny O'Connor, Franklin County Recorder and former Congressional candidate (2018)
* Lou Gentile, former State Senator

!!!!!! Awesome.

Hopefully people aren't dumb enough to actually believe this

Ahem...

Yes I know it's Fox News but still, would be an interesting primary if LeBron ends up running. He's arguably the most popular current NBA star at the moment.

Realistically though I think it's probably gonna be Jim Jordan vs Tim Ryan in the general.

LeBron Obama wouldn't win either, the racists in Appalachia Driftless Area and the rurals would not vote for a black man from Cleveland Chicago

Even if she were an excellent politician on her own merit, the aesthetic of dynastic politics would not play well here, I suspect.

As relevant as ever:

Triage Ohio.

The rest are still winnable by Democrats.

Surprising, since he's for sure safe in the GE. Possible this increases the chance for him to vote for Trump conviction.

Let's just hope Jim Jordan won't replace him.

I had the exact same thoughts when I heard this news. Anybody but Jordan, please! I doubt Democrats will be competitive, even if it's maybe 1% more winnable at best, so any Republican who wants it is going to get the seat.

Jordan is in line to chair the judiciary. Would he give it up for a senate run?

Hopefully not. Somebody please remind him of that. I think he's less harmful in the House, even as a committee chair.

All the Republicans need to do is tie LBJ to China, and they have the race locked.

Danny O'connor is definitely looking at this race, Tim Ryan looks like he is staying in the House, but this is a gift to Ds

Oh yea, those Daryl Money comments are gonna come back to haunt him, especially in a state like Ohio that's probably ground zero for outsourced jobs. He'd probably do terrible in his hometown of Akron if he's the nominee.
