How the hell do you pronounce his original last name?

Rest In Peace, Larry King.

From grade 8 or so to the end of high school, I used to listen to Larry King on the radio while doing homework.

Larry King had a radio show prior to taking the tv show on CNN (for awhile he did both.) According to Wiki, he started on the radio show in 1978, but I didn't start to listen until 1982 or 1983.  His format was 2 hours (I think) of interviews, followed by open lines for one hour.  I was mostly interested in the open lines.  These were genuinely open lines, unscreened with any topic.  It was usually about 1/3 sports, 1/3 politics and 1/3 other stuff.

This was the first national radio talk show, airing on the Mutual Broadcasting Corporation, which became the Mutual Radio Network and then back again.  From Wiki, Larry King did not originate this radio show, he was actually the third host, but he was the one who made it successful.

Larry King meanwhile got his start on the radio in Miami, interviewing people in a makeshift studio in a restaurant. As his show became more popular in Miami, celebrities started to come to the restaurant to be interviewed.  King frequently mentioned the time he interviewed Jim Morrison.

One of Larry King's biggest incidents on the radio was when he became a reporter himself by reporting on a fire in some important building that was just outside his Washington studio.

Why didn't this thread come up when I search for it?

RIP, he was an icon growing up in political talk TV.  And yes, I even liked him on RT America.

That's a damn shame. Another legend lost. It really ought to be a wake-up call too that King could survive heart disease, eight divorces, and so much more but not the coronavirus.

Very sad that he ended up where he did, but good on him for living as long as he did. Definitely made his mark. RIP.
