In terms of being a political swing state, it's more Fool's Gold for Democrats over the last four decades than Florida. Democrats have been assuming since the 1980s that the growth of an educated professional population in the Research Triangle and Charlotte combined with a large black voting base we're going to shift this state Atlas red like Virginia has become.
