Where should the Republicans hold their conventions.  Strategically, either Cleveland or Minneapolis would be their best options.

CLEVELAND!

It would be cool for something political to make it's way to Cleveland yet again. Smiley

I'd prefer Tampa. I'd like to actually visit the convention though so maybe Cleveland would be best for me personally.

I'd go with Minneapolis.

The Republicans would be wise to meet in what has become a strong Democratic state in Presidential elections.

All of these are good choices except New Orleans, which would bring back memories of their Hurricane Katrina screw-ups.

New Orleans, it would give them another chance to politicize national disasters.

The Republicans met in New York City for far different reasons than what they would be meeting in Minneapolis for.  The Republicans were under no illusions that they had any chance to carry New York in the election.

The convention in New York City emphasized the President's and the party's national security credentials, an issue on which the President and the party were far ahead of Kerry and the Democrats at the time.

Besides, Minnesota is much closer to being winnable by the Republicans than is New York.  In 2004, the spread in New York was 18.29%, while in Minnesota the spread was only 3.48%.

Our mayor Frank Jackson says even though he is a democrat, he wants the RNC to choose Cleveland for business. Phil...you and I meet up if it comes to Cleveland.

Minneapolis would be a good choice for the reason Winfield described.

Florida would probably be too hot and might bring back memories of 2000.  Also the convention might be during hurricane season so it would be good to avoid the South).

Cleveland wouldn't be a bad choice but might bring back memories of 2004 (at least among the most liberal 1% of the population).

New Orleans would have worked if the Republicans did a better job handling the hurricane (the opposite of which worked in NYC 2004).  Like Tampa, NO would be too hot and hurricane-prone anyway.

Tampa or Minneapolis

Tampa swung Republican (as seen by the 2004 election).  The Republicans should turn this swing into a trend.

It was a pretty small swing.

They all say that.

Wow, I never thought of the hurricane situation. That would be very bad.

^^ Stick with the tradition!  I'm somewhat of a traditionalist myself.  I don't want the Thanksgiving games to be taken from Detroit and Dallas, and I don't want the GOP to stop exploting dead people for political gain.

The Democrats do it too. "OUR TROOPS ARE DYING AND IT'S ALL THE GOP's FAULT!!!....they made us vote for it".

Putting it in New Orleans is as bad a spot to put it in as New York last time.  Minneapolis would be a good place, or Cleveland

Tampa proper? Yes, that would be correct, however Hillsborough county pretty constantly goes republican and at the local level its pretty much dominated by Republicans from the Mayor to the City & County Councils. But Tampa would be a very great place to hold a convention because of the states nature to swing during an election year.

Minneapolis would make the most sense.

I'd personally like to see them pick New Orleans. Smiley

Minnesota has gone from being a very strong Democratic state to nearly a swing state.  This state was once among the most Democratic of states, and now is toward the middle of the pack.  So it's not a bad idea for the Republicans to woo the state.

Of course, they met in Philly in 2000 and failed to carry Pennsylvania, despite it being a swing state.  So I don't know how much the location of conventions really affects the voting.

They better fix that little I-4 problem first.
