The race for the 5th Congressional District in Oklahoma is very crowded with no mudslinging, yet, amongst both parties.

It is an open Republican seat because its current holder Ernest Istook is running for Governor.

The candidates on the GOP side are:

Mick Cornett -- Mayor of Oklahoma City
Denise Bode -- State Corp Commissioner
Mary Fallin -- Lt Governor
Kevin Calvey -- State Rep and National Guard Officer
Fred Morgan -- State Rep and Attorney
Johnny Roy -- Physician and Community Activist

Democrats:
Bert Smith -- Teacher and 2004 OK-5 Nominee
David Hunter -- Surgeon
Jim Priest -- Who?!!

Independent:
Matthew Woodson

All of the Republicans are deep Social and Fiscal Conservatives, strong family men and women, very pro-life and pro-family.  They all support a constitutional ban on gay marriage.  They hate abortion in ALL cases, even more than President Bush.

I actually would be comfortable with any of the Republican candidates, except for maybe Johnny Roy, simply because I don't know anything about him.  If Johnny Roy were the nominee, I would support Bert Smith of the Democrats.

I will probably vote for Mick Cornett, though.  I will vote for him in the Primaries next Tuesday, July 25, but because I'm moving in the middle of August, I will be voting for Frank Lucas (R) in OK-3 in November.
