Quote
Donald Trump spent four years railing against a “deep state” of career federal workers he claimed was undermining his administration from the inside.

When Joe Biden takes office this week, he may actually have one.

A higher-than-usual number of Trump administration political appointees — some with highly partisan backgrounds — are currently "burrowing" into career positions throughout the federal government, moving from appointed positions into powerful career civil service roles, which come with job protections that will make it difficult for Biden to fire them.

While this happens to some degree in every presidential transition, and some political appointees make for perfectly capable public servants, Biden aides, lawmakers, labor groups and watchdog organizations are sounding the alarm — warning that in addition to standard burrowing, the Trump administration is leaning on a recent executive order to rush through dozens if not hundreds of these so-called “conversions.” The fear is that, once entrenched in these posts, the Trump bureaucrats could work from the inside to stymie Biden's agenda, much of which depends on agency action.

A lot of them can still be effectively banished to Siberia by moving them to a different position with little power or meaningful responsibility.

Also, depending on the position, Biden could also strip them of their security credentials and use that as cause for dismissal.

We will root out Trumpism root and stem. All these people will get removed or reshuffled. Biden has people working on this. Joe Biden is even getting a new Secret Service team as the Trump team has been compromised by both Covid infections and Trump stockholm syndrome.

Why is this the case, when of course anytime or republican Administration comes in it seems every confident career professional seems to get tossed out on their ass for whatever kid that just finished their internship at the Heritage Foundation or a e i?

Trump is slime balls were able to get the jobs in the first place from presumably confident people with the same legal protections from termination, they can be replaced just as easily?

Regardless, these people need rooted out branch and root, and Biden needs to make the effort to do so.

If Trump and his secretaries could decimate the staff of Cabinet departments, it shouldn’t be hard for Biden to make sure these burrowers seek new opportunities elsewhere.
