I assume you mean by using a giant laser to physically divide them in two. Otherwise this would just be silly

This is a reminder that Utah, Wyoming, and especially the division of the Dakotas were added for for republicans to have more seats and the state of Sequoia failed as they didn’t want what (was then) a democratic stronghold to be a state. Hawaii and Alaska were added as they thought they would balance out (which they basically have)

Statehood has always been a political tool, especially for republicans (albeit a party nothing like the current one). So anyone acting like that’s a terrible or unamerican to add states that would help democrats is just flat out wrong, there’s about nothing more American.

I may not be able to send voting representatives to Congress, but at least they can see my yard signs while driving to work.
By this logic should we even have elected representatives at all? If they can, as well as the body's agenda, be influenced by signs and bumper stickers alone, why not have the President appoint all members of Congress?

Forgo elections and instead force politicians to read every yard sign in america before any vote in congress

Hey Democrats!

If you're so angry about DC not getting representation, why don't just let them merge to Maryland? Instead of giving 2 senators and a rep to a single city?

...Maybe because you deep down know it's a blatant powergrab?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again,
Statehood has always been a political football since the founding of the country and anyone acting aghast that it’s once again being treated that way are just lacking basic history

The only way to end it being a political tool is to get rid of the senate as it is

Actually maybe not. They could rename the post to governor, and no where does it say a state has to have a governor or a bicameral legislature and an elected executive, theoretically a state him could have any form of government so long as the constitution is approved by congress.

Yes but theoretically hypothetical situations aren't the topic of discussion here - H.R. 51 is - & it provides for the Mayor becoming the Governor.

Ah didn’t know they did that, thanks for correcting me!

The solution to adding all the territories is to uncap the house and abolish the senate

I’ll compromise. If DC can be added to Maryland then add the dakotas together

Tbf everyone knew that the electoral votes of the district part was going to need to be handled eventually, the simplest thing to do is to just make the district the federal buildings and add 3 EVs to whoever won the Electoral College, if there's a 269-269 tie, then they could be left blank or go to the winner of the popular vote.

that’s…. actually pretty brilliant

So you’re saying it’s immoral for people you don’t like to vote? Also you are literally ignore the hundreds of thousands of poor black Washingtonians that make the majority of permanent resident whose jobs have little to do with the federal government…

They still vote on presidential elections, it's immoral for them to have senators and reps by any means. WTF was the point of a capital city if they're just going to end up a state. And if you live there and care so much about it, nobody is stopping you from moving somewhere else, it's your choice ultimately.

Also while we're at it, wouldn't DC have a huge advantage politically against the rest of the states since it hosts all the Chambers of Congress and the rest of the institutions?

By the way, DC is not majority black anymore, it's a plurality now by 2-5%, DC is on track to become majority white in the 2020s with people constantly settling in there, almost all of them are exclusively white with good paying jobs provided by the government, so the oppressed card doesn't work.

1. Yea that’s ridiculous thank god London, Paris, Brasília, ACT don’t have elected members of their national legislative…

2. You literally are walking face first into the point and still miss it…
