Would have preferred Fetterman, but since he's running for US-SEN vs GOV good to see a solid DEM-PA-GOV candidate throw the hat into the ring.

This isn't exactly pertinent to the Governor's race, but a very interesting primary just opened up in State House District 96, which covers Lancaster City. Lancaster City Council President Ismail Smith-Wade-El has launched a challenge against incumbent Mike Sturla, who has represented the district since 1991.

I'm late, but this a pretty insane pace and enough to warrant a thread rename, imo.

Early reports are that he's raised his ego by at least 37%

His mother was a professor at my alma mater before she passed away, and I believe it is a hyphenation of two last names (Smith and Wade-El) but I could be wrong and Wade and El could be separate last names. I know Smith was her maiden name, though.

I'm not sure how this went under my radar, probably because it was announced just after election day, but Doug Mastriano formed an exploratory committee to run for Governor:

and a recent poll conducted by the Democratic Governors Association found him leading the GOP primary field:

New poll shows Mastriano leading potential GOP gubernatorial field

Quote
The survey, sought by the Democratic Governors Association, found that 18% of Republican voters listed Mastriano as their first choice out of eight candidates seeking – or expected to seek – the GOP nomination, which also included former U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta, state Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman and former U.S. Attorney Bill McSwain.

While Mastriano led the pack of GOP hopefuls, Barletta came in second with 14% of Republican voters saying the former congressman was their preferred candidate. No other candidate received support from more than 4% of voters, with Corman coming in third at 4% and Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Gale and state Sen. Scott Martin each received 3% percent.

Notably, 56% of voters said they are “not sure” who they’d support for the Republican nomination, showing the wide open nature of the race a little over six months out from the 2022 gubernatorial primary.

Probably not, but he would be equally as hilarious a candidate as Mastriano. Well, hilarious until you realize there's a legitimate chance even the most insidious, awful Republican can win Pennsylvania.

It's a Neutral Environment not a Red wave but D's have until Aug 22 to pull up Biden Approvals to 50, Biden won't be at 40 I'm Secular ABC OR USA POLLS Aug 22, BBB AND INFRASTRUCTURE WOULD HAVE MADE IMPACTS ALREADY

It's a Neutral Environment because Rs haven't lead in a single blue state poll they were tied in WI Sen 47 no other R except for MI Gov polls show a close rave and MI polls are junkie until Election

Honestly, even if it's a bad year for Democrats, I still think Shapiro is the favorite. Barletta and Mastriano are relatively weak candidates and Shapiro is a very strong. I mean he even won Luzerne County last year, a feat which, despite the fact he probably won't repeat it, is quite remarkable.

It's worth remembering that Lancaster', like York, is a marchikama is a majority-minority city. This is why I would have liked to see those 2 consolidated with Harrisburg into a single congressional district. Let the Amish and white flag white flight exerbitites have their rone ruby red district

May as well get Santorum to run for the Senate seat.  They both went down in 2006.

Charlie Dent might as well get in at this point. Heck, let's get Gerlach and Tom Corbett in as well!

Both GOP primaries for PA-Sen and PA-Gov are becoming a clown car at this point.

I'm not sure why Hart didn't just choose to run for the Senate seat instead. She'd probably have an easier path to the nomination in that race, than she would in this race.
