Good.  This along with MI and WI are probably the most important governorships for Dems to win in 2022.  All of these states are just a Republican governor away from AZ/GA/TX style election laws from being passed.

After all this time, what if Shapiro just doesn't run for whatever reason?

This is literally not an option. Every hypothetical post that suggests that Shapiro ultimately will not run is just that: hypothetical. Shapiro has been plotting this run for Governor for 5-10 years at this point. Every step he's taken dating back to his days in the PA legislature has culminated in his eventual run for Governor. No one else has run for a reason--he is the de facto nominee and no one is contesting that. He will run, but he is clearly plotting his entrance based on the state of the GOP primary.

Do you think anyone will run against him in the primary?

Not anyone high profile enough to win. The disadvantage a potential challenger would be at in terms of name recognition and fundraising would make a bid all but worthless. The linked article says there was a brief effort to recruit a progressive female challenger, but that never came to fruition.

Sounds like the announcement will come Wednesday in Pittsburgh:

Odd considering that he's from Montgomery County (also my home county!) but finally good to have some news on this.

Montco here too! Was hoping he'd have a big event here to kickoff.

Absolutely. It's becoming cliche to say but 2022 is going to be the most consequential election this century...until 2024 becomes that. Really, any election which features a Republican Party that wants to transform our country into a place only they would want to live in essentially makes every election the most important ever.

Shapiro is the strongest statewide Pennsylvania possibility right now, so glad he's made it official.

This is good news. I've said for a long time that the only PA Republicans who scared me were Reschenthaler and Meuser. Both being out of the Gov/Senate races is a huge relief. The remaining GOP field is a certified clown car.

I’d say 2022 is even more important than 2024 given that that so many governorships are up and that Dems need to hold serve in the senate in order to have a chance at control again this decade.

WI, MI and PA Govs are all Tossups and MD Gov too if Steele is nominated, Charlie Baker, LePage due to ME 2 and Ayotte can win, so can Craig and Steele

Whitmer hasn't lead in a single except when Biden was at 61% Approval, and we lost IL due Kirk Dillard voters in Suburbs

If Shapiro wins and therefore resigns as Attorney General, does anyone know how the vacancy would be filled? Does Shapiro get to appoint his own replacement, or is there a different process in place?

Not gonna lie, that logo is pretty awful. $25 is a steep price to walk around with that thing on a t-shirt.

To my knowledge, Shapiro would appoint his own replacement, subject to approval from the State Senate.

Agree, but I guess it checks the box for being "patriotic" but it invokes an old school feel. It appears his branding is centering a lot around the classic, constitutional values of PA. It's not too flashy, which I think is deliberate. I like it enough that I snagged a shirt and a sticker pack.

He would get destroyed statewide. What works in Philly doesn't work everywhere.

Also changing my rating of the race from Lean D to Safe R thanks to this tweet.

Safe D, the state to worry about is MI, ME and MD, Steele, LePage and Whitmer are vulnerable

Mills beat Moody due to Angus King was on the ballot in 2018/ same thing as Whitmer she had Debbie Stabenow running with her

As I have consistently said Midterms are less Partisan than Prez but Prez Johnson can believe Charlie Baker can win but can't believe Whitmer can't lose, NOT

We have Mandela Barnes and Fetterman and Van Hollen running I'm WI, PA and MD, but Steele running with Van Hollen can certainly win, Van Hollen is friends With Kennedy and Shriver clan

Whitmer is Par Quinn

Shapiro and Krasner have had a notoriously rocky relationship. Not saying that necessarily impacts Krasner’s chances of going for PA AG, but it definitely hurts his chances of being appointed to that position.
