Wonder if Biden will choose Gene Sperling for OMB.

Presumably either him or Shalanda Young.

Raimondo was easily confirmed 84-15. A majority of the Republican Conference, like yesterday when cloture was voted on, sided with the Democrats to confirm the new Commerce Secretary. 15 Republicans voted no and there was one not voting. Cloture vote on Rouse is happening now.

Democratic Nays (0):
None

Republican Nays (15):
Shelby (AL)
Tuberville (AL)
Cotton (AR)
Rubio (FL)
Scott (FL)
Kennedy (LA)
Hawley (MO)
Sasse (NE)
Hoeven (ND)
Cramer (ND)
Scott (SC)
Hagerty (TN)
Cruz (TX)
Barrasso (WY)
Lummis (WY)

Not Voting (1):
Blackburn (TN)

Have to say I'm surprised so few Republicans voted against.

So Haaland is safe even if Sinema decides to say FU to her Navajo voters.

Well at least some good things are coming through. This is nuts but the GOP will do anything to muddy the waters. I still don't see how the GQP think they will win in the midterms.

Becerra reported to the floor on a vote of 14-14. Due to the tie vote, there will need to be an additional floor vote to formally discharge the nomination before it can be considered.

Tai, Adeyemo reported to the floor by voice vote.

(Becerra's HELP hearing was just a courtesy thing, that committee doesn't need to take any action)

They're banking on the historical precedent and how they fared against all expectations in the 2020 House elections. They're probably right.

Why is the Finance Committee rather than HELP in charge of HHS nominations?

Tai and Adeyemo were unanimously reported out of committee today with Becerra receiving a split vote. Haaland will have her committee vote tomorrow and hopefully Murkowski will vote for her so we don't have another split decision out of the Energy Committee. With Collins supporting Haaland though, her confirmation is assured. On the schedule above, I also merged the non-cabinet-level hearings/votes with the cabinet-level hearings/votes. Cabinet-level officials will be bolded.

So I guess, the final vote for Haaland will be 52-53/47-48.

She's arguably his most progressive nominee.

This is pretty surprising for Murkowski.

Maybe she will go I/D after all???

This isn't that surprising for Murkowski and it's not because Murkowski is a secret liberal, but her victories in the Senate have always relied on her strength of Alaskan Native voters and she knows it.

Yeah, this is definitely just Murkowski understanding her constituents. I wouldn't use this vote as a barometer for anything unrelated to land issues.

In the Senate today, the COVID relief bill (and Ron Johnson's inane request to have the entire bill read out loud) has been front and center but in confirmation news, Haaland was reported favorably out of committee with an 11-9 vote (Murkowski voting in favor). With Manchin, Collins, and Murkowski on board, she is certain to be confirmed even if it does end up close.

Schumer just said something about executive calendar 12, which would be Marcia Fudge. Seems like she might be next to be confirmed early in the week. They obviously did not want to take her (or Haaland) out of the House until the COVID-19 package was taken care of.

EDIT: Cloture has been filed for both Fudge, Garland, and Regan.

Still, it’s also going against Alaskan oil interests. It surprises me somewhat that she apparently thinks this would matter more to the Native vote, and that matters more than oil at all.
