She's also apparently fighting her own AG on this? And she called Warnock and Ossoff Communists.

Most definitely. Trump already loves her because she downplayed the virus and allowed super spreader events to happen in SD, so she may get his endorsement. She also spoke at the RNC.

Although I don't actually think most Trump supporters care about this anymore. This may just be about the private prison contractors and pharmaceutical giants who will donate to her campaign.

lulz.  Imagine ever thinking that "libertarianism" was closer to conservatism than liberalism on the political spectrum.

On economic issues it is. And guns and most other things. That's why the last two nominees for the LP before No-name Jorgenson were both Republican lawmakers before. Bob Barr went back to the Republican Party and I'm pretty sure he's a Trumper now.

Funny, but aren't the rurals getting billions in Trump welfare?

Yes. A lot of rural areas in the South are dependent on government aid through food stamps, (often) false disability claims, Medicare/Medicaid, etc. And one of the only viable career/education options for kids out of high school is the military welfare program. But it's okay, because they are just temporarily embarrassed millionaires. Whenever the GOP gets back the trifecta and cuts all of their benefits, they will just win the lottery and be fine. At least the blacks won't have rights.

How stupid, this issue is only moving one way: toward legalization/decriminalization.

Should just let it go and take the L.  Hopefully it gets shot down in court.

Am I shocked by Noem? Absolutely not, she's a terrible Governor. She'll lose this case.

Noem seems to love to pick the losing side:
- Pro-Trump
- Anti-Cannabis
- Anti-mask mandate
- Anti-gay marriage (in 2020!)

With a record that far outside the mainstream, she doesn’t strike me as much of a threat in 2024.

Yeah, really, this is the state government dealing with a state referendum.

Yeah, really, this is the state government dealing with a state referendum.

But it's the Governor explicitly trying to overturn a referendum, the purest form of democracy -  a straight up, public vote on a specific policy.

If SD voted for a GOP Senator, and the Governor then unilaterally decided to challenge those results and try and replace them with a Libertarian or Democrat, purely for ideological reasons, would that be ok? The same principle applies.

Since she's making what amounts to a process argument, wouldn't it have been more justifiable to challenge this before the referendum happened?

I think she tried. I'm having trouble finding the articles, but regardless the answer is yes. This will probably get thrown out from lack of standing.

I'm not saying this doesn't suck or is even stupid but it has nothing to do with state rights

Sounds like a losing issue if legal cannabis is more popular outside of SD than within it.

I'd argue most Trumpists either support it or don't care.
