Political consultant Sam Riddle said he believes Mongo's group is receiving support from allies of DeVos and that the aim of the ad is to damage Granholm's credibility among black voters. Riddle predicted the tactic would backfire.

'This ad is a republican smear campaign. It doesnt matter what Devos, Granholm or Mongo's group says, the bottom line is we have seen this in elections before. This is a typical repulbican tactic. We have seen it in 2000 with McCain, 2002 with Harkin, 2004 with Kerry and now 2006 with Granholm. The problem with these ads are that democrats cant answer the accusations. It's a matter of opinion. Republicans will be laughing about the ad, democrats will be angry while independents have to decide for themselves. The one thing we always know when this happens is that the republican candidate slams the accusation, claims he had no responsibility while quietly wishing that it has an affect on his opponent. Will it work? I hope not.'

Comparing pretty much any American political figure to Hitler is ludicrous on its face, and pretty much shows that there is no desire to have an actual debate on the issues, and instead to focus on smear tactics and mudslinging. I agree that it is politics at its worst, and it will backfire, especially in Michigan.
