Nay - I'm not convinced his policies are what is needed in the current economic situation. And I shall jump into another pot of hot water with this one, but what's life without some risk? Wink

I have already introduced some of President's Bills in which I understand  the Secretary of the Treasury's had input, which I'll duly consider whether to support or not. But let us get one thing perfectly straight, "slash and burn" for its own sake is not the answer. He really needs to start to come up with better alternatives to that

Therefore, I cast a very cautious Aye on this nomineee

I must say that I find it rather amusing that had there been a confirmation process for AWN, you most certainly would have encountered just as much opposition, if not more, than Bono.  Yet here we have the two AWN front men voting against a perfectly competent incumbent nominee.

That still doesn't mean anything about the statement.

That's not remotely close to being true.  JerusalemCar5 was asking to be GM for weeks before I finally made the appointment.  I know you were slightly more reluctant to take the job, but I wasn't "begging" anyone to do it.  The fact that I had left the spot open for a month indicates that I wasn't in any great hurry to fill it -- ironically, I filled it at Bono's request, because he needed economic numbers to keep doing his job.

Ebowed, there are legitimate reasons for our votes.  We aren;t the only ones either.  Bono's economic policies could kill the entire economy.  We are simply trying to protect Atlasia.

Aren't you in charge of that?  Sounds like a conflict of interest, perhaps one that can be remedied.

No, Al is, and he is for a reason.  We have checks on ourselves to prevent such conflicts.

No, Al is

You implied that Bono will destroy Atlasia's economy.  As Senator, you have voted accordingly.  As head of the news network which decides how the economy is doing, you are simply deferring to Al?  If that is the case, why didn't you read Al's post in this very thread?  Here, I'll quote it for you:

Just to make this clear: the recent sharp rise in unemployment figures is down to two things:

1. A change in the way the figures are calculated (until now the longterm unemployed were not counted amoungst the ranks of the unemployed).

2. The fact that the economy of a large stretch of the Eastern seaboard was devastated by an attempted civil war/coup, which in turn resulted in panic in the markets (which have since calmed down).

While legitimate criticism of Bono's previous term at the Treasury can certainly be made, the return to mass unemployment and the likely coming recession is not his fault.

If I were still a Senator I would be asking myself two questions:

1. What were Bono's policies during his previous term?

2. Is he the right man for the job in the changed economic circumstances?

You can find out the answers to 1. by checking his thread. And you can find out the other by asking him what he intends to do.

I will also take this time to note that the economy will not magically get better (especially as far as unemployment goes), but, unless whoever runs the Treasury next is astonishingly incompetent or some other idiot starts another civil war, the economy will not collapse either.

Bono's policies could still effect it.  I don't support his decisions and don't support him.  It is a legitimate position.  I have voted in favor of every other nominee, so I would not be coimplaining.

So Bono's policies will not "kill" Atlasia's economy as you had previously stated?

I have voted in favor of every other nominee, so I would not be coimplaining.

Am I not entitled to defend my nominees?

I am not comfortable with proposals to privatize Amtrak and the U.S. Postal Service, but despite these misgivings I think Bono will be a postive influence on the Atlasian economy.  I therefore support him, but not without reservations.

Aye.
