One of the greatest, if not the greatest, song ever written. Angel

It’s an OK song but I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s in the running for best ever. The lyrics are a bit heavy-handed. Call me a cynic but these days they make me roll my eyes more than inspire me.

Didn't we have a thread on this already recently?

Well anyway:

Nice on paper but condescending in context. I always found one problem with the song that ruins it for me. He says "I wonder if you can," instead "I wonder if we can." That immediately would make the song sound more inclusive and not like Lennon is putting himself above the rest of us.

It's good, but nowhere near his best.

But still massive freedom song.

Nothing special. The lyrics are neither particularly thematically original nor artistically impressive.

It's an iconic song for sure. I remember the first time I heard it in High School, I would never forget it. And what more can you ask of a song?

Horrible, but I hated all of Lennon's solo work.

Freedom song that I enjoy listening to, but admittedly it’s not the utopia that some people might think it would be. In some ways it’s a song that we should aspire to in spirit, if not in actual practice.

I’ve been liking Remember a lot more lately.
