Depends what you mean by "the norm". I'd absolutely, positively
hate living in a world where everyone was a hard-agnostic with vague metaphysical inclinations, since that would mean there is no actually-defined metaphysical viewpoints to fulfill these inclinations. We'd all be miserable together.
If you mean it being "the norm" more in the sense of a social convention people of different faiths land on as a sort of common language while continuing to believe what they believe and practice what they practice, I think it's pretty ideal (if I do say so myself). And I think it should be the spirit with which the state should approach religious issues as well.
