50 STATES = 50 GOVERNORS..only 8 are female - 6 are democrats 2 are republicans - its not very good for a nation that claims to champion womens rights.

Anyway who is the best governor today? I think its a toughy.

Its easy to opt for Rell but she has never been in a difficult situation. Granholm, Napolitano and Gregoire have faced alot of difficulties due to the incompetence of goverment officials in washington or smears from the right wing crazies.

But im going for the one that SHOULD run for president either in 2008 or 2010 and thats Kathleen Sebelius (recent poll she finished 7th ahead of edwards and richardson) Shes done a fantastic job and i think she could seriously challenge the GOP for a senate seat in 2008 or 2010. She has so many options. She could be vp. She was voted as 1 of Time Magazines top 5 govenors and hopefully will cruise to a deserved re-election as the girl has turned the kansas gop into a disorganised mob with no ideas on how to remove a moderate democrat from office.

While right now Rell would probably get my vote I wouldn't consider her the best female governor in America.  She is having corruption issues and she only fired four people from the Rowland Administration.

I voted Sebelius but not being from Kansas I could be wrong. =)

Are there any female candidates running for Governor this year who will win? Basically will the amount of women governing states increase?

Rell.  Blanco is just a complete idiot, and I can't stand Granholm (for obvious reasons--look what she did to MI).

If Jennifer Granholm is losing this year, there are even fewer women who are Governors, because i don´t think Kerry Healey, Lucy Baxley and Cathy Cox are winning. If Judy Baar Topinka wins and Granholm loses, it stays the same. And we have to look to Alaska for Sarah Palin how she´s doing against Frank Murkowski. Nevada with Dina Titus is another state to watch, but Jim Gibson is leading her in the primary polls.

I think Granholm has done the best job she could have done with the situation she was presented. With the Congress and the republican-controlled state legislature always dragging their feet she is having trouble geting legislation passed.

Rell, Sebelius, and Nappy have done fantastic jobs governing their respective states, and all deserve to be re-elected by large margins.

I agree Laura Lingle ought to be last since she is a do-nothing governor.

Then again, I could say the same for Kathryn Sebelius.

Lingle, Sebelius, Napotolino and Rell are all good.  I voted Lingle out of Jewish pride.

I've heard that Gregoire hasn't done a bad job despite the election controversy.

That snippet about Sebelius is quite cool.  The more I hear about her the more I think she should be a viable nominee on a national ticket.  That or she should run for the Senate in 2010.

Why do you obsess so much about having a woman as president?  It's not going to happen for a very long time.

Anyway, in response to the orginial question, I say Sebelius.

Because it would be a premiere and something different i think.

I met Lingle, great person.

Gregorie doesn't deserve her job and Sebelius is just an ass.

Women make great leaders. Because men think they cant lead, they think more and common sense takes over. Hence they generally make the right decision. But you dont get a average women doing an average job. you get extremes. you get nutcases and then you get legends.

I think Kathleen Sebelius is the real deal. She cant even give a hint about running because where she is from. The republicans are in complete disarray and they see the threat she poses to them. But after re-election she should go to Iowa. She could win there no problem.

- Shes a democrat, female complete opposite to Hillary.
- Shes a democrat who has never raised taxes. - no tax card
- Shes a democrat thats from Kansas. no liberal card
- Shes a democrat that is a successful governor - no voting record.
- Shes a democrat that has no position on Iraq - no comments on war.
- Shes a democrat whose political family were all successful republicans in Ohio. Heavy republican areas would be reduced and she would win.
