Past 4 weeks: Eminem (been playing his new album a lot so that makes sense)

Past 6 months: Willie Nelson (went on a country kick for a while this year so that also makes sense)

All-time: Jay-Z (He's the GOAT, what more can I say?)

It's a bit ironic he was number one though given that for a while he pulled a lot of his catalog off Spotify because he wanted people to switch to Tidal; it's all there again now, though.

Other artists high in my all-time list include Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, The Beatles, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Fleetwood Mac, and R.E.M.

I'm generally an Apple guy but I prefer Spotify over Apple Music. Even though I was a huge fan of the iPod back in the day and built an enormous iTunes library that I still have backed up on a hard drive somewhere. Part of that is because when I tried to sync that library with Apple Music when it first came out back in 2015 or whenever it was, it screwed up my meticulously organized library's metadata and album artwork. Eventually I was able to find a fix for that but it made me decide I wanted to keep my streaming and offline libraries separate. And if I was gonna do that, I preferred Spotify (which I was an early adopter of after it came to the US) because I like its UI and discovery features better. It just seems to know me and my tastes well after all this time. Plus, ironically it excels at the clean UI and intuitive, user-friendly nature that is generally Apple's thing. Way better than iTunes ever did, anyway.

Now I basically never use my old offline library and just stream Spotify all the time. I actually see Spotify as the successor to the iPod more than Apple Music. It's a universally known brand that's widely used everywhere, and it's basically been synonymous with music listening this past decade in the way the iPod was the decade before.

I used to use Spotify a lot, but I was really frustrated by the lack of lyrics. I know they have "Behind the Lyrics" but it isn't the same. Apple Music has lyrics for the vast majority of songs so it makes it easy to follow. They also have a slightly bigger selection of international songs. I used to have iTunes as well but I didn't bother transferring the stuff over, so it was basically like starting anew. To me, being able to search for whatever and listen to it right then is so much better than having to buy and download albums. I cannot believe I used to ask for iTunes gift cards for my birthday and spend $10 on a single album.

ETA: Ironically, I'm usually a Google guy. I have a Google Pixel and I run Apple Music on it. Go figure lol.

My top track in the last four weeks is All Within My Hands - Live from Metallica's S&M2, very unsurprisingly.
The top 50 is obviously filled to the brim with Metallica songs. I also reckon various Fausto Leali hits and two different versions of November Rain (*weeps*).

My top track in the last six months is No Leaf Clover - Live, again from Metallica's S&M2, again very unsurprisingly.
This top 50 is filled to the brim with Metallica songs as well. More interesting is Battle Hymn Of The Republic at number 50.

My top track of all time instead shocked me: apparently it's Creep by Radiohead.
The number 2, Genesis' Firth Of Fifth, is more expected.
To put my recent fixation with them in perspective, the highest (and only) Metallica song is Enter Sandman at number 25. Well, this is actually a function of listening to so many different tracks of theirs, instead of having just a few standing out. They're #3 in top artists - see below.

My top artist in the last 4 weeks is... Metallica. Duh
A bit surprised that Johnny Cash (#2) is above Fausto Leali (#3) and that Guns N' Roses are only number 10. Apparently I didn't even listen to fifty different artists in the last months. List stops at 46.

My top artist in the last 6 months is again... Metallica. Duh
A bit surprised by having The Beatles second and Coldplay third. And no Italian in the top 10.

My top artist of all time is unsurprisingly The Beatles.
Second are The Rolling Stones. Metallica are third.
Some things are a weird throwback. Eminem and U2 in the top 10. J-AX making it into the list at all! He's number 49.

I do listen to good Italian music, like Edoardo Bennato, Lucio Dalla, or Francesco De Gregori. And I also listen to the band which created the two most awesome albums ever.

Okay, but they have much fewer YouTube views and incredibly fewer Spotify plays than the artists I mentioned. I don't know about other outlets I am not on.

Not sure why it's surprising, they're very influential on emo.

Paramore isn't emo, but neither is a majority of bands there.

And I'd say La Dispute is great but I'm also outraged at MCR, the Nazi and a teenybop pop star beating them.  Angry

I suppose you’re right - they just jumped out at me, as most of the bands you talk about I haven’t really heard of.

My top 5 artists from the last:

Last 4 weeks: The Weeknd, Idles, Victorian Halls, Run The Jewels, The Used
6 months: Poppy, The Devil Wears Prada, Idles, Taylor Swift, Run The Jewels
All time: Kendrick Lamar, Run The Jewels, Death Grips, August Burns Red, Dance Gavin Dance
Holy sh!t, you actually listen to worse music than you did 6-10 years ago!
