Blount County appears to have been Sanders' best county in the state, in which he received nearly 40% (395 votes) with Shelby his second best at 35.4% (3,755 votes). Ancestrally Republican Winston County gave Sanders 30.4% (138 votes). All three counties voted for Moore in 2017, with Moore reaching into the 80s in Winston and, famously, getting just 56% in Shelby.

The main thing I can think of is anti-Hillary sentiment. Such a voter would almost certainly be white.

Vote for a Jewish socialist, followed by a Dominionist? Maybe it's not as outlandish as it seems?

Ancestral DINO who always voted Republican in the general but never actually switched parties. He voted for Bernie in the Dem primary purely as a protest vote against Hillary. There were plenty of these voters in West Virginia.
