https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/530440-recommendation-to-rename-san-francisco-school-named-after-lincoln-stirs

Quote
A committee’s recommendation to rename several San Francisco schools, including one named after Abraham Lincoln, has drawn national attention, with both President Trump and the city's mayor, London Breed (D), criticizing the recommendations.

The School Names Panel recommended renaming 42 of the city’s schools in a November meeting, including schools named after Lincoln, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Spanish priest Fr. Junipero Serra, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The panel cites Feinstein’s replacement of a damaged Confederate flag outside San Francisco City Hall while she was mayor and Lincoln’s policies toward Indigenous people.

“The discussion for Lincoln centered around his treatment of First Nation peoples, because that was offered first,” said Jeremiah Jeffries, a first-grade teacher who chaired the renaming committee. “Once he met criteria in that way, we did not belabor the point.”

The schools in question have until Dec. 18 to suggest new names, which would be subject to school board approval. The board is set to vote on whether to accept the recommendations in 2021.

Trump took aim at the recommendations Wednesday morning, tweeting that they were “so ridiculous and unfair.”

London Breed is a FF of course

Quote
However, the recommendations have also drawn criticism on the other side of the aisle, with Breed calling them a secondary priority in comparison to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“It’s offensive to me as someone who went to our public schools, who loves our public schools, and who knows how those years in the classroom are what lifted me out of poverty and into college,” she said in a statement in October. “It’s offensive to our kids who are staring at screens day after day instead of learning and growing with their classmates and friends.”

At least no snarky comments about how this will help Trump win reelection. Gotta put an end to this. These woke people are a cancer on civilization

Even Feinstein is being targeted LOL

Also, once again San Francisco shows how screwed up their priorities are. Should we do something about our struggling schools and help our impoverished students? I know, let’s rename schools that were named after an American hero because some fringe people now think he is “problematic!” That will surely help them!

It's very unfortunate that the justified renaming of Confederacy-related places has emboldened this sort of thing.  This is just excessive.

As I said in another thread, we are heading towards a time when the heroes half the country looks back on are seen as evil by the other side.  We really need some sort of national answer to this problem.

Are- are they not aware of who Abraham Lincoln was? And, more specifically, what he did?

If that's what the people of San Francisco want to do with their school names, who am I to try to stop them?

I highly doubt that if you polled the people of San Francisco, they would approve of this. This “School Names Panel” does not appear to be elected, and the elected mayor has criticized their recommendations.

Inspiring. In my heart, I always knew neo-Confederates and the far-left could find common ground. Smiley

Stuff like this is why Republicans performed better down-ballot than Trump.

Notable that in California itself, even as Biden won in a landslide, the far-reaching Affirmative Action proposal went down in flames. “Wokeness” in its current form is not popular even among most Democrats, and I’m tired of these “activists” who push radical, unpopular ideas being associated with the party. They don’t speak for it and they don’t speak for me.

I don't doubt any of that. It just seems like a local issue for me to stay out of.

The 1619 project is to blame for this type of crap as they helped push this anti-American crap into mainstream

By this logic, San Francisco should be renamed. It's representative of European colonialism and the forced conversion of natives to Christianity.

Yeah this is stupid. I'm all for calling out the founding fathers, most of whom were evil people, but Lincoln was a hero who saved the Union and ended slavery. The least we can do is name schools after him.

The truly pathetic thing is that a lot of the anti-Lincoln talking points you hear now are literally a regurgitation of Lost Causer propaganda. The neo-Confederates during and after Reconstruction figured the most effective way to smear Lincoln would be to argue that he was really the real white supremacist, not the Confederacy (similar to the Trumpists today who basically argued that Biden was a white supremacist and Trump was the most racially woke President in a century), so they embellished some claims about him and took quotes out of context. He actually did say that one about how he would save the union freeing all slaves or none or just some, but in context it was obviously just a political pander. Lincoln was in fact pretty adamant that complete abolition of slavery had to be a part of any peace deal, and noted that if the South was allowed to keep their slaves it would inevitably just result in another war a generation later, so it had to end then and there. I mean obviously yeah his overall racial views weren't fully in line with modern day woke thought, but also the idea we should base our judgement on him in accordance with neo-Confederate smears is almost self-parody.

Karl Marx was an ardent admirer of Lincoln. These are deranged Buttigieg supporting wine moms and I don't claim them as a leftist.

I’m totally fine with renaming the Feinstein school. She’s not dead yet (even if she looks like it), so it shouldn’t be named after her.

That’s not why the school is being renamed, though. It’s because of his actions towards Native Americans.

1619, though an utter pile of garbage that was indeed responsible for anti-American nonsense, wasn't responsible for this. Lincoln was no founding father.

Yeah, this x100.
I do wish those idiots would get less media attention... but the media's entire way of thinking makes this a difficult task.

Most of these uber-woke people claim to be socialists/Marxists of some kind and supported Bernie or Warren. At least most of those I've seen, anyway. Some even go farther left than that, are pure anarchists or something. The Antifa people who tore down that Lincoln statue in Portland? Yeah, I doubt they were Buttigieg supporters...

I doubt they care what Marx's views were either. Even Marx wouldn't be pure enough for today's Marxists.
