There's a bit early on in Judge Wine-box's "interview" with Lara Trump that makes Trump supporters' position on democracy very clear.

They do and it's a huge problem.  It is like peeling layers off an onion.  There are some that are redeemable and hold Democracy in higher stead than Trump, but the substantial core are truly irredeemable.

Well, the hope is that infact it is "only" 47% percent, which means that a majority still supports democracy. But democracy faces a HUGE threat, there is no doubt about that.

It is a huge problem, and I do not have any good or simple solutions. And doubtless the fascists would prefer it if their victims simply "gave up". (Fascists, like "conservatives", really hate it when the victims of their abuse fight back.) But "giving up" isn't a viable solution either - as WWII showed us, eventually fascists will always come for everyone else. Because they can't actually run a nation on their own, they need war and looting and foreign scapegoats for their own evil incompetence.

American fascism is undead  - a dead thing walking around and pretending its alive. Sooner or later its rotted husk will collapse. Whether that will be an internal as decay and daylight catch up to it,  or whether it will need to be put down like the monster it is, I don't know. But leaving it alone will never be a good response.

Without a doubt. Before the election I was still holding out hope, but since the results came in it's just too obvious.

Yes, that seems to be quite possibly our trajectory/timeline. As for the ETA, 2024 may or may not be too early, it is hard to say but it depends on what happens and what people do.

There was a blog called “Stuff White People Like” around 15 years ago and they made the point that white people like competitions and games where they have no possibility of losing. In 2000-2004, when there really was a slight conservative and Republican majority in the U.S, the same people liked democracy, and I was worried about how it would crush me as a minority. Now that this predominantly white group is in a minority, they see democracy as a game they will usually lose, and they want no part of it while I stan it.

They hate democracy and don't deserve to be pandered to or "won over" by the Biden team. Any official enabling -- or worse yet, outright supporting -- his brazen and unprecedented attacks on democracy deserves to lose their job and never be heard from again. McEnany, Giuliani, Ellis, Powell, Stone, Bannon, and the rest of this rotten bunch should be publicly exiled and shamed for the rest of their lives. They shouldn't even be able to get a job selling sandwiches at Union Station.

This isn't the most unhinged post I've read since I've been on the forum, but it's the most unhinged I've read today.  That ought to count for something.

I agree that the high vote share for Trump suggests American democracy is basically dead. On the upside, most Trump supporters are so incompetent they might just kill themselves off before they hurt other people too much and if they can be kept at bay for another decade or so there is some hope that demographic replacement decreases their political influence. But it certainly looks pretty grim!

You're leaving out the 50% of Democrats who also have shown contempt for democracy in the past. I estimate that about 75% of this country is authoritarian by nature, and another ~20% is too apathetic to do much about their beliefs.

Republican elected officials are not the same thing as the Republican base. The Republican base would like that very much, but Republican elected officials are reluctant to get between cheap labor and their corporate overlords. In addition, Dems would filibuster that in the Senate since unfortunately the filibuster still exists.

Yes. Because true democracy is fairness and equality, and those are not conservative goals. As the slow but inevitable path to human rights marches on, conservatives will always stand in the way, just as they have been on the wrong side on pretty much every social movement in history. Eventually, attacking and even dismantling democracy will be necessary in order to prevent the progress that they so fear.

I don't think people who voted for him hate it just because they voted for him on its own. It is more of how many are supporting him trying to change the result. That does make a large bit of his voters, but not every one, so I think its fair to say "most, but not all"

If you believe the election was fraudulent or unfair, then there is nothing "undemocratic" about not recognizing the results as legitimate (like what Stacey Abrams did after losing in 2018, lol.)  This isn't a question of values, it's a matter of (mis)information.
