Looking at the AP/FOX exit poll, it surprised me that a big piece of this election, as we already knew, was that Biden turned out a LOT of voters obviously, but that Trump brought out low propensity voters, and Republicans actually had *higher* turnout than Democrats.

Rep/Lean Rep - 48%
Dem/Lean Dem - 47%
Indies (true Independents, i guess) - 5%

With all the antipathy towards Trump, do you find it surprising that ultimately, Republicans got more voters out? Or do you think this had to do with the fact that Republicans continued their canvassing and GOTV efforts while Dems did not?

It definitely explains Trump's better-than-expected performance among nonwhite voters.

I think we are at the point where more "ancestral" (or whatever you want to call it) republicans are voting democrat than the other way around.  Since forever we hear about Reagan Democrats and Dixiecrats and blue collar democrats who vote Republican.  A lot of them have since died or switched parties.  I think now there's more suburban republican crossover than the other way around.  So that republican turnout is probably not as good as it looks.
