It's November 2022, and the Austrian-born Former Governor of California wants to run for President, so he decides: Screw it! Why not! This is my last shot, and if I'm not allowed to be President, the Supreme Court will have to stop me! I want it in plain writing! No ambiguity!

So he announces his campaign.

Instantly met by a flurry of doubt and questions over the legality of it all. If he's not eligible to be President, when does that even come up? Is he 'allowed' to run in the meantime? Will he be allowed to participate in debates? Will he be allowed ballot access? Who challenges this? And so on.

How does this all play out?

Other candidates would likely have standing to challenge it, would sue, courts all the way up to SCOTUS would confirm he is not a “natural-born citizen” and thus not eligible to be president.

The requirement that a president be a natural born citizen is such an outdated ideal. He's been a United States resident for 52 years and a citizen for 37, yet is not eligible to run for president because he happened to be born in Austria? My grandfather moved to the United States when we has 10 months old and he couldn't be president because he happened to be born out-of-county to two legal residents even though he's lived here for 73 years? That's ridiculous.

he said that if he had been allowed to run for president he actually would've done so, and god damn I wish 2016 could've been President Schwarzenegger. That being said, he'd be thrown out by the courts immediately after his opponents challenge his legitimacy. Or, more likely, none of his paperwork would be accepted by election officials.

I completely agree but that doesn’t change the reality of it, sadly. Would take a Constitutional amendment.

That's got to be a joke thread.

A) he's not eligible to run (not born in the US).
B) he's too old
C) he's not in good shape (heart surgery)
D) got better, less stressful things to do

Absolutely this. It makes even less sense when you consider that the USA is a nation of immigrants and descendants of immigrants.

Also, Schwarzenegger is one of the few who could actually stand up to Trump.

There's no demand for him amongst Republicans.

Schwarzenegger is a globalist at odds with the GOP base at present.  He's almost a Democrat.  Indeed, he's much more in line with where today's Democratic Party is at.  The Republican Party has left him.  He's a neoliberal, and his place is in today's Democratic Party.  Of course, he doesn't stand out in that party; he's one of a crowd.  Plus, he's too old.  (Biden is an exception to this rule for a number of reasons.)

Obviously, he's the Austrichurian candidate.  Programmed by the same cabal that gave us Tender Branson.  Rejected!

It's not 100% clear but the widely-accepted reason, the "natural-born" clause was added to the Constitution was because the Founding Fathers feared that a foreign aristocrat/monarch might try to influence or buy their way into the presidency.

For example, what if some Prussian prince ran for President and was able to bribe their way into office and then that prince turned the U.S. into a Prussian/German puppet state. The United States was a new country, so this was a reasonable fear to have.

Obviously, this is irrelevant in modern times.

There are a number of States that already have laws on the books requiring candidates be eligible for the office to be on the ballot and which have been uniformly upheld when challenged.  A few elections ago, one of the Socialist parties had an under-35 Veep nominee and had to have an alternate running mate in those States.

He'd rather be in his pool, smoking a cigar, and lecturing people on Facebook about COVID.
